Seeing this part of the forum regarding plants for special occasions, it is our 40th wedding anniversary on the 27th September. The obvious plant is a ruby red rose with a great scent. So my question is what rose do you think would be best and whatother plants do you think would be a great way of celebrating my wife putting up with me all these years.:-)

Congratulations, Alan, I hope your wedding anniversary is a happy day for you both! There are three red roses with the words 'Ruby Wedding' in the name so one of those might be nice: http://www.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinder/plantfinder2.asp?crit=ruby+and+wedding&Genus=Rosa Then there is Myrtus communis, Myrtle. It has white flowers but in ancient Greece it was sacred to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. That would also make a very romantic gift.

There's also a clematis called Ruby Wedding and an Astrantia so you could go for a triple whammy.
You could also consider David Austin roses Falstaff, Tess of the Durbevilles and William Shakespeare which all have excellent perfume, are disease resistant and a good rich ruby colour.

Have ordered the Ruby wedding hybrid rose, the astratia and the Clematis. Sholud give a nice bit of variety. Thanks for the suggestions, it is most appreciated. Alan

Congratulations on your anniversary! Planting those lovely plants is such a nice idea, I don't imagine putting up with you has been too much of a chore.
Whether you think you can do a thing, or think you cannot, you are right.
