I leave mine to die back on their own.

I usually leave mine to die back too, but this year one of the plants has put on some new growth straight after flowering. So I have cut this one back to the new shoots and will see whether I get another showing later in the year

Give it a go - it might just work!

I leave mine to die back and when the leaves go yellow ,I chop it down and put something else in it's place usually a couple of big pots or something.

Thanks Digger, what a good idea of putting pot plant in bare place, the thing i want to do later on is to move two of the dicentra because they are crowding other plants. Not sure when or how to do this but will have a go.

Hi i split my dicentra last year as it got massive, I just dug it out and did the fork thing back to back and then planted half back where it was and the other half in the back garden, they both thrive, They are good here for an early flower before the other stuff gets going.
