Apologies if this has been addressed before, I looked but couldn't find anything.  Recently, I was told about a homeopathic solution to reduce slug and snail damage to crops and flowers.  It involves crushing cloves of garlic in water, leaving to steep, straining and bottling then using a specific measurement of drops per pint/gallon of water.  Used to water your garden it apparently offers a highly effective, organic solution without actually killing the blighters or being hazardous to other wildlife, pets etc.

Unfortunately, I don't have the exact recipe or method, and being a homeopathic solution this depends upon the accuracy and tiny amounts in a large solution, so has anyone else come across this method, and do they have the recipe please?

Oh, and apparently it doesn't make the garden smell all garlicky!

Don't knock it until you've tried it, Boggy!  Last thing I want to do is scatter blue slug pellets all over my garden, and if we use things like seaweed extract to feed plants, and other methods like companion planting to deter pests, or scattering coffee grounds everywhere, what is wrong with using a homeopathic garlic solution?

Unlike your reply, bogwevil, I don't mean any hurt to anyone with my question.  I thought one of the ideas of this forum was to share ideas.  If you don't like my suggestion, fine, but please, don't mock me.

2 whole heads of garlic boiled in 2 pints of water for a few minutes, if the level goes below 2 pints after boiling, just top back up to the 2 pints.

To use.  Add 1 tablespoon per  gallon of water.

If you do it during the daytime it will dry onto the leaves of the plants and will have a much better affect.  Just don't do it at midday and burn the leaves!

    Hope that helps.

On a side note, go easy on Boggy, the thought of homeopathy for plants IS amusing as it's normally a word used for people, but yes, in it's strict definition it is correct, just unusual... it's early morning, our brains don't work right and it made me smile too.

That is an interesting snail repellent. When my garden  in India was infested by giant African snails two years ago, I tried smearing the leaves of the lilies and hostas with chilli powder paste. It worked.
