Does anyone know the best way to store Garlic once it has been lifted?  I followed the guidance of planting on the shortest day and lifting on the longest (ie very recently) but can't find anthing about where to keep the bulbs for the long term.  I have plaited the bulbs using the leaves, but should they now go in the cellar/ shed/ barn/ kitchen or what?  I am planning to do some pickled garlic, but as I have about 50 bulbs to deal with, I'd better keep some dry!  Cheers, roon.

Well done for getting a good crop of garlic. I would have left the garlic in a dry place to wither a bit before plaiting. A piece of chicken wire stretched between some posts is ideal for the purpose. Spread the garlic out evenly over the wire net so there is plenty of air able to circulate around each bulb, otherwise they can get mouldy if they're lumped together. Once they've dried a bit, shake off any excess soil that may've clung to the roots and re-plait them.  Never wash the bulbs in water to get them clean before storing as the damp will only encourage mould infections.  Hang them up in a cool dry dark place and they should keep until next spring. Keep an eye on them for mildews/mould and remove any bulbs that show signs of infection.

Many thanks, Hydro.  I'll be moving them to the cellar then.  Luckily, the leaves had withered quite a lot whilst the bulbs were still in the ground, and I left them all drying for a day or two after lifting (by accident, as I didn't get round to dealing with them earlier!!)
