I have 3 large borders in my garden. They are nearly empty and full of weeds so they need some planting this summer. Can anyone here advise some shrubs or perrenials to fill up the borders.

Most shrubs are best planted in the autumn so their roots can establish properly before growth and flowering begins. What sort of soil do you have - clay, sand, loam, chalk? and is it neutral, acid or alkaline? well drained or poorly drained? Is the area in full sun, partial sun or full shade? Also do you have any particular colours in mind?

Get rid of the perennial weeds first!!!! Otherwise you will be trying to dig them out from between your new plant, which will be a lot more difficult.
