Hi Phot's-Moll,
The ones I planted against the low supports on 17th April are up. I planted more against the tall supports on 26th April I checked them tonight and they are not through yet. I also sowed some in an unheated greenhouse on the 7th of April these are now 9 inches tall......How are yours doing? Dragonfly

Hi, all my seeds are all just coming up and I planted them on the 20th April, the germination rate looks like it could be near to 100% as there don't seem to be any gaps, I made a note of how many I planted and as they are only just through I should be able to count them tonight. Although I planted quite a long row, I have plenty left and might do a few and start them in the greenhouse like you Dragonfly.

The ones I sowed in the windowboxes on 28th April are now poking through the compost, it looks like the germination rate is very high too on both varieties.

I'm still patiently waiting for my peas in troughs sown on 25th April to come through. Think I'll sow more in pots as an insurance policy and perhaps in a different site.

They shouldn't be too much longer now lindylou, I've got my windowboxes sited in full sun and am keeping the compost watered.

I'm a naughty girl and didnt sow mine until 1 May so mine aren't showing yet Just another little admission aswell, I only realised yesterday that I had forgotten to label which type was which - I'm hoping that it will be more obvious when they get bigger - whoops.

Mine are looking like almost 100% success on the sugar snaps, but strangely less than 50% on the mange tout so far!?! They are in rows next to each other in a raised bed so don't understand why?

Lisa, if we can see any differences in the plants as they grow we'll let you know so you can label yours. Hope mine are OK - I haven't been able to get to the allotment since Monday. We've had some light rain, so they should be fine.

Been down to the plot this evening to cover up those plants that I am putting out to harden off. Still no sign of the peas that I planted on April 27th. It is still very cold here in the North West. It has been fine today but there is a bitter east wind.
I keep hoping. The "Feltham First" in the gutters are nearly ready to go out. Will then use the gutters with trial peas.

I am surprised you haven't seen any signs yet - all mine are through now and I have had to net them to keep the birds off ! They seem to really like the pea shoots better than anything else growing in the garden at the moment - even the lettuce.

Hurray at last .I went away for the weekend and while my back was turned peas have appeared!!! Well as the saying goes a watched pot never boils! Both are peeking through though there are more sugarsnap up to now. I will be taking all of your advice and keep them well watered. Also I have wood pigeons and doves nesting in my trees so I will do as you all seem to do and net them.Ah, happy days and happy gardening to all.

Mine are looking OK. There are a few gaps which seem to match up with the earliest shoots that were being munched by pesky slugs. Dwarfbean, if yours aren't up yet it would seem something has eaten them or it's been too cold and they've rotted before they've germinated. Hope i"m wrong and they come up soon, but if not, I wish you better luck with a second sowing.

Glad to say that they are just beginning to appear. We are having some very cold winds here in the north-west. The last few days have been fine but the wind is still biting. Can't blame the plants for being reluctant to make an appearance.
Weather only good for washing days if you can manage to keep it on the line.

Have checked mine again this morning (after netting against the birds) and now there seems to be slug damage on the sugar snaps. Aaagh - will have to put some organic pellets down later. They have all germinated really well and are growing quickly but they are obviously susceptible to pest damage in a big way.
