I've put this post in tools and equipment, because really a book is a tool. Anyway I am a lucky chap because this morning OH presented me with a wonderful gift of a new book entitled, RHS New encyclopedia of gardening techniques. It looks very splendid indeed, on the inside cover it gives a list of contributors under the heading "expert RHS authors and consultants" I think the Wisley team has written most of it, I'm off to read the vegetables and herbs section first.

I agree that a good book is a useful tool.
Whether you think you can do a thing, or think you cannot, you are right.

Yes I think my books are the best tool ever, Miranda once told me that books were her silent friends, I agree with that sentiment entirely, i am a maniacal book collector, I haven't counted recently but I think I have in excess of 100 tomes about horticulture

I've only got about 60 gardening ones.

Miranda once told me that books were her silent friends Yes, and they're very good friends too, aren't they, digger. It's actually a quote I borrowed from someone else, via my dad, but I can't remember who now. Don't know how many horticulture books I have, as they tend to get spread about a bit, but there are quite a few. They are really very tempting.

This latest acquisition was from a book store that sent me something through the post, it wasn't a club to join it was just offering books at a discount, so Oh got me this one and a little pocket book full of horticultural bits and bats, a sort of facts and figures book that fits in my pocket. I think the place was called books direct or something similar, the most unusual thing (and annoying for OH) is that the books were delivered on a Sunday morning.
