As very new allotmenteers, we sowed some brussels sprouts seeds in April/May just to see what would happen. They germinated very successfully and grew well. However before long the pigeons that inhabit the allotment (or some other beast) quickly ate up most of the leaves. Is it now too late to try sowing some more - at least we've learned that we'll need to net them next time.

Although it is too late to sow brussels sprouts, most experienced gardeners have a stock of spare plants - put the word out that you are in need and some kind person may provide.

I had a similar thing this year, only instead of the flying pigs eating them, they rotted off with all the rain we had. I picked up some healthy plants that were ready to be planted out off a nursery stall at a car boot sale. This year, instead of netting my crops to protect them, I have poked some bits of sticks amoungst the plants and so far they are all surviving, the birds don't like landing on the sharp ends and I've just got to be careful when weeding so I don't end up poking myself in the eye.

Of course there is always Farmer Arnold - although his cultivars are not what I would choose.
And Sue, you can always buy more plants but you only have two, or in your case I suspect, one eye.
