Very Ill Money Plant

colin S Location: Joined on: 25 Apr 2007 Posts: 1	Reply \| Contact I have a money plant that has grown well for many years however in recent months it has developed a bad problem and we fear that we may lose it entirely, The leaves have fallen off and the stems have gone soft from the base upwards. about a third of the plant has now gone and a couple of weeks ago I took the stems that seemed bad and had almost fallen horizontal out and found that the stem was very soft and seemed to be disintegrating. I broke it off where the stem was good and repotted back into the main plant pot and added more potting compost to give a good basis for it to start growing again, it did seem to perk up bit in the last week it has now become as it was before and lays horizontal in the pot. I would hate to lose the plant entirely and, call it superstition or stupidity find my finances seem to be dwindling at the same time as the plant so really would like to save it, and not to mention my finances from disappearing completely. Has anybody else experienced this problem and how did you solve it? You may have guest that I am not a "percy thrower" but will give my best shot to keep my plants and garden healthy. My father, now departed, would turn in his grave if I didn't.

If all the stems are soft, then I'd say the plant has had it and you should get yourself a new one. There are two money plants that I know of (though there may be more) - the jade plant (Crassula ovata) and the Chinese Money Plant (Pilea peperomioides). Any idea which one yours is? Both prefer it on the dry side over winter and neither like cold draughts.

Hello Colin, sorry to hear about your plant! It sounds like your plant may have been over watered or not warm or light enough over the winter and this has caused it to collapse. If all the stems are soft, then I'd say the plant has had it and you should get yourself a new one. There are two money plants that I know of (though there may be more) - the jade plant (Crassula ovata) and the Chinese Money Plant (Pilea peperomioides). Any idea which one yours is? Both prefer it on the dry side over winter and neither like cold draughts.
