You can ask to a person near the area who has a well planned garden. As far as chicken are concerned, it's nice to keep them, but they should be well fenced.

Re: My First Garden!

When moving to a new house with an established garden wait one whole season to see whats in it, if neccessary make a plan and mark each plant on it.

The next year you can decide what to keep and what to lose if any thing.

Any problems or ID required we will do our best to help, we are very helpful here

Re: My First Garden!

Hello!Enjoy your new garden and ask away. Neighbours are good as they know what grows locally.By all means go for the chickens but do keep them well fenced away from the pretty bits and your veg. I like my chickens but they are mega destructive. The only things which survive in a long term chicken run are trees and nettles. You have been warned.

My First Garden!

Hello everyone,

I have just bought my first house. The previous owner was a very keen gardener and as we move into spring it is becoming clear just how many years it must have taken to get it to this stage.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no knowledge of horticulture whatsoever!

When I bought the house I had visions of chickens and a veg patch but now even the areas which appeared to be lawn in the winter are turning to little patches of flowers.

It's not a big garden by any stretch but it is packed full of flowers, shrubs and plants.

I still have the vision of chickens and veg patch but I want to keep the horticulture where I can. In order to do this, I need to identify and learn about what I can and cannot do with the plants I have, so this is why I am here.

Expect to see a lot from me in the identification section, you'll see what I mean once I start getting some pictures on here!

I look forward to using this resource and hope you will join me on my mission of discovery!
