ive acquired a few pots this evening and a bag of compost so will try and replant them tomoz night hopefully weather permitting

I have an invasion of self~seeded lobelia, all in one pot, this year and I have move many just this week to other locations. I watered them in very well and made sure they are kept well watered for a few days and they seem to be doing fine. Hopefully, this will encourage them to self seed further across the borders for next year rather than just staying put in one pot.

As a matter of interest, I have a slate trough full of stones on which I stand pots (to benefit from the humidity) and I put two or three lobelia into the stones and they have taken and are coming along nicely without any soil. Feeding them about once a week to compensate for lack of soil, and doing well.

thanks for that, was with them getting massive i thought they might become a problem like and was a bit worried about them taking over and getting in the way of the other things in the pot etc

I hope you're enjoying your new interest, mark. It can become the pleasantest of obsessions - you'll never be bored again, ever, because there will always be something to do or look at.

As the geraniums will get bigger than the lobelia, I'd have them out and leave the lobelia where it is. The geraniums are perennials and will need more space than they'll get in the pot, while the lobelia will fill the gap quite prettily without becoming a nuisance. Carefully, ease them out, being careful to get plenty of root, and replant them straight away, giving them plenty of water afterwards. They'll probably sulk for a few days but should pick up.

as far as i know all that is in there is the small conifer and a couple of geranium.. they were given as the conifur was a random that had grew of an inlaws tree, i'm guessing after some pruning and he had a couple of geranium plugs left over which he kindaly gave us.

thats why i was a bit confused as to what these where!!!

this is my first year of gardening so to speak so i'm really treading water at the min. but the help i have recieved on here is great.

What else have you got growing in the pot, mark?

It is possible to transplant them, but they might not thank you for it, and it might not do whatever else is in the pot much good, either. It depends what else is in there.

thanks for that after checking around it would seem that its that, just with having none in the garden that i can see was a bit suspicius.. plus i thought they were a smaller plant these things are monsters..

heres a better pic now i got my camera out rather than my phone

is it possible to move them whilst flowering as there kinda taking over the pot there in!!!

Lobelia is the one with small blue flowers - just realised you may have been referring to the pelargonium which is the one with the large green leaves.

It's a lobelia. It is possible for them to self seed, especially if you live in a mild area.

can any one identify what this is please at all, i'm thinking weed myself but cant find any that look like it.

i'm sure there was only the conifer and poss a couple of bulbs planted in the tub thats why i'm thinking weed.
