It all depends on how much you want to spend. i find well maintenance is not cheap - in fact, maybe more than mains water charges but i am also aiming for drinking water quality which will not be an issue for you. Your best bet would be to get professional advice - there are lots of groundwater specialists. We use ECP in Suffolk - wwww.ecpgroup.com - not sure where you are located but there are bound to be local people. Good luck - a water supply will take a lot of the headache out of your plot!

Well found - now what do I do?

I've taken on a plot that has not been dug for 20 years. In the course of clearing I've found a groundwater well. The site does not have mains water so we have to harvest all we need. Though its great to now have a well I feel I need to upgrade it. It is ten feet down to the water and I don't yet know how much deeper it is. It's lined with old oil drums. So what do I do next, can I reline it? It is currently covered with an metal sheet (quite solid) but I feel it should be raised above ground for safety. Any tips or links to resources would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
