I kept it pruned so as not to outgrow it's space.

Unfortunately they lose their leaves in winter but you could get a bit of variation and seasonal interest by planting dwarf narcissus and crocus around it. As the leaves return they will hide the messy foliage of the bulbs. I like to plant a mixture ot Tete-a-Tete and Baby Moon narcissus in the same spot, as one finishes the next starts so you have yellow flowers for longer.

If you have a sheltered spot you could try an evergreen Choisya 'sundance' which is very golden and has more delicate leaves thatn the usual Choisyas, though I've found them to be a bit fussy if they don't have ideal conditions.

Re: Golden coloured plant for memorial

Hi Kazziecon. Sorry to hear of your loss. I am growing a David Austin rose, Graham Thomas, in a pot and the flowers on that are a beautiful golden yellow colour.

Re: Golden coloured plant for memorial

Thanks for this - I too love the one at the bottom of the selector! Such a beautiful colour. I think I might have a look for that one.

Regards and thanks

Re: Golden coloured plant for memorial

Sorry to read about your loss Kazziecon, I find the worst thing about having pets is when you lose them. Your idea of planting something in a pot in Niamh's memory is a very good one as you can easily take it with you if you move.

I've had a look in the Plantfinder and nothing comes up with either gold flowers or leaves that are suitable for pots but there are three roses that have come up when I put yellow in for the flowers, I love the colour of the one at the bottom.

http://apps.rhs.org.uk/plantselector/selectionresults?gdt=81&rc=20&pt=90&op=0

Golden coloured plant for memorial

Hi

We sadly lost our beloved and beautiful Golden Retriever, Niamh, last week and, as she absolutely loved the garden, we would like to plant something for her. We have decided to put something in a pot so that, if we should move house, we can take it with us (although I doubt that will be for a long time yet).

We would like a shrub which has either a golden or deep yellow flower or perhaps a golden leaved plant. Can anyone suggest anything suitable? Forsythia is the only thing which comes to mind but, if a flowering shrub, I would like something which stays in flower for longer - a golden coloured rose, perhaps?

We would like gold not only because she was a Golden Retriever but one of the Gaelic meanings for her name, Niamh, is golden and beautiful which she definitely was!

Thanks for indulging me

Regards
