MyGarden re-shuffle

Just to let you know that over the next couple of days we will be 're-shuffling' the forum topics on the front page of the forums. This is just some housekeeping to bring some of the more popular topics to the top of the page and archiving older topics.

We're also going to create a new area called 'Over the garden fence' which will house the main idle chat thread. This will probably be the biggest change, as currently the idle chat thread sits in 'bulletin board feedback', which isn't the most obvious place for it!

So, please bear with us while we undertake these changes, which will hopefully tidy the boards up.

Just registered with the site but on clicking the 'change password' link in my welcome email I get 'page cannot be displayed'. How do I change my password to something more memorable? Can't find anything to help on the site

is there a way that I can set the forum to show me the most recent post first? it used to do that on the old forum but now it takes me to the oldest post first which if the chat thread is sometime in 2005!

also i didn't get an e-mail with my password but I re-set it, hope that's ok!!

Google ads

Wonder if anyone can help? When I do a search on the RHS website, it has suddenly (as of today) been popping up google ads on the page giving the search results. I hate google ads! I already have Adblock plus and greasemonkey installed but neither seem to help in this case. Help please?

email notifications

I wanted notification for the front gardens thread, but having posted to three other threads I am now getting email notifications from all of them. What did I do wrong in the first place? to stop them I have tried the link at the bottom which leads to an unavailable web page. I do not mind getting all the emails, they keep the messenger system on its toes.

Any Forum Rules?

Hi All

I'm quite new to this forum and have really only just started to get involved. As forums go it's OK but IMHO a little "top heavy" on the first page - just too many forums I suppose.

But what I was really posting about is, as the subject title say, are there any forum rules? I can't seem to find a thread to any and on other forums I use they are usually one of the first and most obvious topics. I ask only as I notice that there have been a few posts recently which seem to be commercial in nature - advertising a website product. On most forums commercial marketing is a big NO-NO!

Any thoughts?

And who are the moderators (if any)?

help with writing a new post

After registering I had great trouble finding out how to create a new post.

I managed it by clicking on Forums then on one of the new post entries. On this page click "Forum Subscriptions". Scroll down topics and change subscription to yes before clicking on that topic where the "write a new post" link appears.

There may be a simpler way?

Data base for the plants in my garden

Hi all, one of the reasons I joined up to My Garden was to finally get all my plants detailed somewhere but there's nowhere here - soooo two things - wouldn't it be a good idea to have some sort of data base on this site - and does anyone know of another site that I might use??

Who else has noticed that the RHS now has an online shop and plant centre?? it's new to me and I only just found it, RHS have been sneaky and put the online shop together on the quiet.

Hi,

I submitted a post last week in the plant identification forum (I think it was called "Rather lovely weed?" or something like that), and it has disappeared without trace. I did have a message saying somethink like it would have to be moderated first. Did I do something wrong with it? It did have 3 photos in.

i think i (finally) figured it out!

click on the brown forum tab

click on the relevent topic listed (the specific folder rather than the umbrella topic)

click on 'write a new post'

The other day I posted my first thread on the id forum ,Cute Allium---eventually!!!! I thought I would look to see what other threads there are on Alliums. Am I being stupid again? The threads are not in date order, they seemed to be all over the place Each entry I made on Cute Allium was listed separately, on different pages.

As an aid to researching ,to see if someone has posted a similar problem recently, it just doesn't seem to work

Would it not be better when typing in a key word such as "Allium" to refer to each thread, rather than each post, That way they could be listed in date order and have some meaning.

A question for the site admins:

Is there anyway to mark all posts as read ? Most forums have this facility, making the "posts I have not read" link more useful, as it does not have to contain many pages.

Problems for Mac users.

When I post on my Mac, I can only post text - no smileys or formatting options are available (so links and pictures will be tricky!) I can't add spaces or blank lines either, so everything is all squashed together.
