I once heard a weather forcast for “isolated showers of rain, sleet, hail or snow, sunny periods, winds variable”
Today in East Sussex, we've had snow, sleet, rain and a wee bit of sun. The wind we had yesterday.

Hi Steve w & hi Jak, today in the windswept pennines we have not been much above zero all day, it is bitterly cold tonight and i have left my two new pots outside so the frostproof label had better be genuine! I've just been down the lane in the jeep to see if i could see any foxesor anything else out of place all is well but i could see a gritting wagon up on the hill so we must be in for a frost, I will be riding tomorrow so i hope things warm up a bit. bye for now my friends

well we have got a liberal covering of snow today and it is very cold, rather worrying is the article in the the March issue of the Garden, it is claimed that cold cold water from the melting north polar ice caps is cooling down the gulf stream so that the coastal regions of the european continent and the uk/republic of ireland are actually cooling down which is dreadful and this contradicts what i had been led to believe previously, i was looking forward to a much warmer climate where we could leave the more tender perennials out all year if things in the UK are cooling i am very disappointed.

It was snowing here this morning when I got up, only had the chance to settle on the shed roof, has now turned to rain and there is no white in sight.

Your council is obviously more efficient than ours which seems to think that if the roads are likely to be icy the gritting lorries must stay inside!

Hi Anthemis, our council have even been up the lane here today with the gritter but all the snow has melted already,I don't think they are too concerned about the roads it's more likely that they have too much money and so they spent it on grit so they can justify the large council tax bills, although in their favour we do have miles of single track lanes in the borough and for some reason at this time of year people visit from all over to walk the fells, and cause chaos on the narrow lanes so the council will keep the roads clear if not for the locals for the tourism, but you wouldn't catch me out on the fell on a day like today, nice and warm by the fireside. bye for now my friend.

Hi Digger,
I too was hoping for warmer climes and the ability to grow exotics in the garden without too much mollycodling, seems the experts can't agree...some say we will enter a new ice age others that global warming will mean growing more tender plants without protection
One things for sure, another few days of this and all the talk of dried up reservoirs should cease!

Reckon it will take more than this to fill 'em up!

You must live near me Anthemis!
I too would like to think all this rain, sleet and snow is filling our local reservoir, but it has been exceptionally dry for months now, so it's unlikely a few days' precipitation is going to have much effect.

If you want to get to see some snow and wear warm snow boots instead of wellingtons, you'd all better come over and visit me =) It is beginning of March and we are just having the hugest amount of snow we ever had this winter!! Actually we haven't had so much snow for quite a while! Just was out for a walk in about 40cm of snow, shaking off all the snow from any bushes I could get at easily enough. The snow is quite heavy and I'm afraid quite a few shrubs and some trees will snap since lots of people don't realise that certain plants can't cope with too big amounts of snow. I do hope spring will arrive soon... I haven't even seen any snowdrops yet!
