That's great news about OH BB that he is now back in the ward-he is definitely on the mend now which must be a great relief to you and your family. Take care travelling back and fore to Birmingham BB as the roads around there can get quite busy as you probably already know.
My garlic hasn't come up yet Roundelder although I only planted it about ten days ago. I planted a few more spring bulbs in the front window box this morning. We've not got any sun here Sue -its quite grey at the moment. I'm glad Sasha seems to improving all the time now.Smile

Let's hope the next couple of weeks go really quickly for you BB as that's a long way to go, and like Richard says, take care on the roads, the low down sun is horrible for driving in.

It's raining here now, it started just as it was getting dark.

I've had an email from Susiq, she asked me to let you all know that she is ok but she's had problems getting onto the site.  Her mum is home now and slowly improving.

Its good to hear that Susiq is OK we haven't heard from her for a while now, please send her our best wishes Sue if you contact her, its good that her mum is improving now. I wonder how Digger is these days as he hasn't been on the forum for a while either, does anyone know how he is?
It looks as it maybe quiet here with the fireworks tonight as it is tipping down with rain now.

Well, we have whooshing fireworks and pops and bangs going off as I type, here. Luckily Missy doesn't seem too bothered by it - but there is a dog barking over the way, every time another whizz bang pop goes off.

Nice to hear Susiq (and her Mum) is O.K. - I had wondered why we hadn't heard from her.

Tonight I made a celery soup with some celery from the garden and ate it with crusty bread. There was enough for 2 but I ate it all myself! It was really delicious and I will definitely be making that again.Yes

The fireworks are going off around here too now that the rain has stopped, and Sasha is outside listening to them, they don't bother her either.

There's nothing wrong with eating for two BB, it saves it going to waste and as it has veggies in it, it's good for youWink

The last I heard from Digger was that he had another hospital appointment at the beginning of this week.

Hi all, Thanks for the news with Digger, Sue, I hope he is OK.
Your celery soup sounds nice BB, the celery looked good also from seeing your pics on Flickr. We make our own vegetable soup about once a week for a snack usually from veg that we have bought from the farm mixed with some of our own veg if we have some and some bread that OH makes.
I don't think there has been so many fireworks this year as last year they started a couple of weeks before Nov 5th. Smile

Hi all.  You can't beat home-made soups, I made quite a few with the tomatoes.

There doesn't seem to have been many fireworks set off around here either compared to other years.  Last night was the first night I heard them and usually people are setting them off for a good week or so before November 5th.  I expect there will be a lot around this weekend with the big displays going on.

I'm going to make some apple pies for the freezer which should keep me busy this afternoon, I'll make a couple of extra ones for OH's mum which we can take with us when we go over to see her tomorrow.

I'm a big soup lover, especially at this time of year. Vegetable soup with whatever you have in the fridge/garden is such a good idea Richard. Mmm apple pies, the smell of them cooking is hard to beat! Stick out tongue

Well, I swear that cheeky Robin is also following me over to the field when I walk Missy now!! Every time I stopped near a tree there was a robin in it singing anyway. So either we have an awful lot of robins in the area, or there is one very nosey one!!

I will be off to B'ham this afternoon to see OH. Catch you all laterSmile

    Morning all,

We had quite a few fireworks going off round us last night. I think the reason fireworks sometimes seem to start a while before Guy Fawkes night is to do with when the Hindu festival of Diwali falls (they like their fireworks as it is their new year the next day). This year it was 18, 19th October so quite a time between. Next year it is 6, 7 November so it will seem the fireworks are going on forever.

Like your idea of celery soup BB, I've planted far too much to munch my way through so mine could end up in a soup too. I believe that adding celery is a good way of thickening up other soups too.

Give it a go - it might just work!

Perhaps less folk have money to "burn" on fireworks this year...very sensible if that is the case.

Right enough of that from me, now, back to the subject of food. My two very favourite veg soups are celery,  and broccoli (& stilton with the latter). Overall my bestest Wink favourite soup in the whole wide world has to be "Smoked Haddock Chowder". Stick out tongueBig SmileSmile

I think your robin is following you around BB, I have heard that they are territorial but don't know what distance they class their territory as.

I hadn't thought of the Hindu festival RogerBee, from what I remember of October, I don't think any fireworks were going off around here then.

I agree with you Roundelder, it's money going up in smoke.  We've never bought any ourselves but will watch out of the upstairs windows at everyone else's lighting up the skySmile

I've made 7 apple pies, so that's 4 for the freezer, 2 for OH's mum and one to start for dinner later, and there are still loads of apples left over.

I am getting to be a sad old sod...the highlight of my life these days being the latest copy of "Grow Your Own" dropping through the letterbox, December's apeared today. Probably retire to bed early tonight with a mug of hot chocolate and the GYO to read cover to cover. Small pleasures eh! Wink

I'm glad your OH is doing well, BB.

It's raining here. I actually have the weekend off, so I'm hoping it's dry for at least part of the time. Not sure the chances of that are good though.

Whether you think you can do a thing, or think you cannot, you are right.

I'm keeping the rest of the apple pies Roundelder, they only just fitted in the freezer so it was a good job I didn't pick up any frozen stuff when I went shopping this morning.

It's drizzling here at the moment, it looks like it will be dry tomorrow and wet on Sunday here so hope you do get some dry spells over the weekend Phot's.

I like a bit of smoked haddock too Roundelder but not had it in a chowder before. We had some tonight in a fish pie, with cod and prawns in a cheese sauce with a potato topping which was tasty- hope you enjoy your gardening mag don't forget to pass on any good tips!
I expect your OH's mum will be pleased to have two apple pies when you and OH see her on the weekend Sue and you will be in her good books.
Hope your visit to B'ham to see your OH went well BB.

Also hope we get some fine weather for the weekend and that you get some sun down south Phot's now that you have a free weekend.Cool.
