Are you going to get one of the old land rovers, digger? They're supposed to be very easy to fix and can be quite cheap. You still see quite a lot of old ones on the road, which tells you something. Someone I knew had one and one night the doors were stolen. Enjoy the auction. Good to hear that Sasha is getting about more easily, Sue. How long till she can go to the park again? Everyone is into preserving at the moment, aren't they? I've still got some to do. There are more tomatoes and to process and I was going to make some red onion marmalade, which goes really well with cheese. With the jars, I get my neighbours to save theirs for me and get loads. If they give me a lot then they can have a filled one back, if they want it. It's a good arrangement as it means I don't need to buy any and get to preserve far more. We enjoyed our visitors - my dad and stepmother - we went to a nice Thai place just down the road, which does a very good lunch menu. There wasn't a scrap left when we finished. Then we came back here and sat by the fire and had tea and cake and talked for ages. They had to drive home in the rain, which won't have been very nice for them.

That's definitely a good arrangement with the jars Miranda. Glad you enjoyed your visitors too and I hope they got back home safely. Sasha's check up appointment is next Wednesday so we should find out then if she's allowed to go further on her walks and also if she can be let off the lead. If she can be let off, I might take her over the park in the car so she can have a little run and catch up with her friends, we'll just have to see what the specialist says. Another question I will be asking, will be to see if she's allowed to jump up onto the sofa as she's really missing it

Well Hellooo to everyone - Goodness me its good to be back!! I have really missed you guys! My mam FINALLY came home from hospital yesterday, so I'm hoping to be back on the normal basis i.e. having not to lose half a day everyday for the trip to the hospital - sorry that sounds very selfish, but it really has been hard going! I hope everyone is keeping well - there is way, way too much to catch up on here! SO, will just pick up from here - if I've missed anything really important I'm sure one of you will put me straight

The Wilkinsons here isn't one of the massive stores like yours Richard but I find it has most of the things I need for the garden. I always look forward to when the Christmas stuff gets sold/put away and all the gardening stuff gets brought out, they usually have some good deals on the larger pots at that time which is ideal if any split over the winter. Good to see you back Susiq and it's really good news that your mum is back home again, how is she doing?

Hello Susiq its lovely that you are back. It must be a relief that your mam is back (hope she is well) and you do not have all that travelling to do. Not sure what you missed but most of us seem to have been making chutneys, relishes and the like recently with produce from the garden. Also taking down runner bean plants and tidying and planting up the gardens and general work like that. As for me, I've been clearing the attic, and emptying rooms to find more room as our daughter's has returned home to live with us. I am sure everyone else will fill you in with what they are doing as we go along.

Just crossed Sue-I buy quite a few gardening things from Wilkinson's as they have a good gardening section and I find that its very reasonable.

Are you looking to buy anything at the auction Digger or just browsing? The evenings are drawing in a little now and it is on the weekend that the clocks go back I think

Yes, I think it is this weekend that the clocks go back. It's been raining all day and hasn't let up at all and now a weather warning has been given out on the local news for really heavy rain until the early hours.

You'll have to batten down the hatches tonight then Sue. The gardens could do with some rain but you don't want it to come all at once do you. We have been quite lucky and had quite a nice day with some sun but very cold. I expect we'll be getting your weather tomorrow Sue as we usually do.

Hi all, Yes it is definitely this weekend the clocks go back. The thought of an extra hour's sleep sounds good at the moment but I never seem to manage it. I'll probably end up staying in bed an extra half-hour and then using the other half-hour to do some gardening or other bits and pieces.
Good to hear the your mam's back home Susiq and that your OH is making progress BB. Good luck with finding a new wagon Digger - your new avatar is very appropriate for your alias.
Got my gutters cleared out as planned at the weekend, so I should be ready for winter now. They weren't as bad as I thought they'd be since they never got done last autumn. I also cleared the first bit of next door's too so it should help mine not to clog up so quickly - their's is absolutely full of moss! Had to do a bit of repointing of a couple of tiles while the ladder was out so that added extra timeto get the job done and while I don't mind being up a ladder, it's not my favourite place by any means
Hope the rain isn't too bad for you Sue, some rain is good but too much just makes the soil round here so claggy and unworkable - wouldn't want to think of you suffering the same way there.
Give it a go - it might just work!

Glad you got your guttering and repointing done safely RogerBee. The rain is very welcome for the garden here, it should make it easier to pull the weeds out We are on top of a hill so there's no danger of getting flooded out at all. It would be nice to have a dry weekend but Saturday is supposed to be wet too. OH is off work next week and we've decided that we are going to get the greenhouse base sorted, the wooden floor has rotted so we are going to put in a concrete base and hopefully that shouldn't ever need to be replaced. I will make a start on emptying the greenhouse on Friday so we can move it onto the lawn while the base gets done.

Sounds like quite a job and not one you want to be doing in the wet, even if you are at the top of a hill.
I've not got a base to my greenhouse, just the odd well placed brick in the soil to stop the legs of the staging sinking. I then grow my tomatoes in the soil each year but ensure I dig out the top 8 - 12 inches every spring and top it up with home-made compost and the contents of at least one grow bag. What I dig out then goes on the garden to act as a soil improver, and boy does it need it!
Give it a go - it might just work!

Hope you get a fine day on Friday Sue when you are starting on your greenhouse.
It sounds as though you will have a busy week ahead, but it will be a good job when its done. Good work Roger on doing your guttering I've not done ours yet.
