Well done Richard for remembering to rip the bits up, I always shred mine and add them to the compost bin.

The heating is on here too although it's not quite as cold outside as it was last night.

You will have to let us know how you get on with the relish, it took me about an hour and a half in total from start to finish.  The whole house smelled nice when it was simmering away and when my son came home from school, he asked if I'd been cooking with balsamic vinegar as he could smell it, I told him I had used vinegar but not the balsamic one.

We crossed BB.  Glad you all enjoyed your OH's spell at home, it's good news that he will be able to do it again.

I think you're right with the song title in there somewhere, wasn't it the Rolling Stones?

Hi all-just came back from the shopping trip. We had to buy new cordless phones for home as the keys on the others were really worn out and didn't work well- we had them for around 8 years so that wasn't too bad. We bought 3 for £39 in Asda so that was OK-we can still connect two of the old ones just for answering as well. We'll be having a go at the tomato and chilli chutney soon Sue and let you know how it went. Glad you had some time with OH yesterday BB-that must have nice for you all and it will be great that he can come home again for a while. We have a shredder in the other room but can't get at it at the moment! Good luck with your visitors Miranda-hope you have a good time with them. It's a bit of a grey day here. :-)

Ugh, what a horrible day. It has been really grey and windy all morning and this afternoon it has been pouring with rain. I suppose the gardens need it, but it is not nice when you're out walking in it.Storm I have made some leek and potato soup with a couple of leeks out of the garden. Myself and my son had some at lunch time and I am going to freeze the rest.

Sounds like you had another successful shopping trip Richard. Your phones sound like a bargain. I'm sure we paid twice that for ours a couple of years ago!

You seem to be doing OK with your garden produce BB- well done with the leeks (I am proud of you-being welsh mself !). I have just been out in the garden and picked a load  of green toms and the pan of tomato and chilli relish is on the stove at the moment-its been on for nealy an hour-OH just had a taste of it and she said it was nice-so its nearly done Sue. We are just about to sterilise the jars. We have some beetroot on the boil also but that's from a farm and not our own.Smile

Thanks Richard, I have been pleased with the leeks which have exceeded my expectations and all grown to a nice size without any problems. I still have about a dozen left in the garden. I do like leeks even though I'm not Welsh!!Smile I hope your relish turns out as well as Sue's, which looked delicious, and also your beetroot. I am starting to run out of jars, after making tomato relish, green tomato chutney, beetroot chutney and pickled beetroot in the last few weeks, and the cupboard is full. I need OH home soon to eat it all!!

That was a good deal with the phones Richard.  Hope the relish turned out ok, it's got more of a kick to it when it's hot than when it's cold.

I love leeks too BB, your leek and potato soup sounded nice.  It is surprising how quickly the jars run out once we start refilling them, I'll have to make a mental note to start keeping them earlier next yearSmile

Well the relish is jarred up now it made about 1.5 lbs Sue so we are very pleased with that and the taste.
We had to go hunting around for some jars and had to wash out and sterilise a few that had just a bit of old stuff in. It was only about 3 months ago that we recycled a lot of glass jars as we thought we wouldn't be making anything!
You are well stocked up with chutneys and relish BB to warm you, OH and your son through the winter!Smile

Hi all, It's been terribly windy and cold here today,I wore my thermal underwear and my harry hall waterproof pants, we went to lidl and i got two pots of mixed alpine plants for four quidBig Smile they're on the kitchen window at the minute, I settled for a red collar for sally but i still want a diamond one as well, sue1002, was right the red contrasts well with sally's black fur coat, phoebe got a red collar as well and Cecil got a new chain collar, i don't want sally or phoebe to wear a collar too often or it might mark their lovely fur coats. Tomorrow is cow auctions and sheep and pigs as well, then in the evening chickens and rabbits get sold but there are also lots of market type stalls, selling all sorts of things not just all for farmers but some things for farm wives as well so tomorrow we are all going to the auctions and having home made food in the restaurant, I bought a new trailer for OH a few weeks ago so she can tow it with her van, next OH needs a land rover for getting onto the fields and towing the horses, so I am going to eventually get rid of my car and find a landrover 90 for OH,that way she will be able to manage in bad winter weather without me being there, our friends are helping us find a landrover but i think it will be a month or two away before we get it,it will need a diesel enging though.

Morning all.  Sasha loved going out in the rain, our usual walk of lately has been a slow one around the block taking about 10 minutes and we got round in 5 todaySmile

Have a good time at the auctions today Digger, are you planning on bidding on any of the animals?  Was it last weekend when you were going to the Medwyn Williams talk and how did it go?
