Oh dear, I don't like the sound of your new neighbours Digger! Lets hope it was just some kind of one-off housewarming type shindig which won't be repeated.
Good luck with buying Sally a collar, the one you have in mind sounds really posh

Hi BB, Yes the new neighbours are usually quite well mannered, but last night during the brawl on their driveway there was lots of noise and sweary words. I have been told by another neighbour today that the new neighbours are only a temporary fixture, which means they will be gone soon, but also it means they won't care how bad their behaviour is . Sally would look nice with a collar i think, she could wear it for when we are out and she is working not just for playing out or it will get ruined.

I hope the new neighbours are just a temporary measure Digger if they're going to cause that much trouble. I haven't heard the cockrel from over the back lately and I think (and hope) it's gone. With Sally being black, I think a red collar would be ideal for her. Sasha has a red one with pictures of white bones and paw prints on it.

I hope you have a more restful night tonight Digger. Saturday nights seem to be traditional for some parties so maybe that will be it. Yes BB I pulled up all the runner bean plants. I chopped them down to ground level and left the roots in as I read somewhere the roots return the nitrogen back to the soil-not sure about that though. Glad you enjoyed your parsnip BB -hope it will be the first of many for you. We still have to re-arrange some more furniture Sue but we managed to fit most of it in now-there is so much to do we are doing at a bit at a time. You'll be glad that the cockrel has gone-hopefully

Morning all. It's still a bit nippy here but the sun is trying to get through. Have fun re-arranging the furniture Richard. I spoke too soon about that cockrel, I was convinced it had gone as I hadn't heard it for what seems like a few weeks but the damned thing was crowing it's head off this morning.

What horrible neighbours, digger. We had people like that round the corner where we were before and they were a serious pain. Sometimes they would chase one another up and down the street, screaming and shouting. It was a respectable village too. They left in the end and things went nice and quiet again. Your idea for Sally's new collar sounds fine. I've seen collars with bits of cloth stitched on to look like a scarf and I quite like the look of those. They give the dog a rakish look. Richard, if you pull a bean plant up and look at the roots, you'll see little round things on the roots - those are the nitrogen nodules. The pea and bean family do that. Clever, isn't it. We've been eating the parsnips for a while now and they're very good. We couldn't resist them. I picked the remaining sweet corn yesterday and have hung it to dry in bunches. The kernels are pink and purple.

Those sweetcorn sound colourful Miranda. I am looking forward to growing some next year. There is so much flavour in the parsnips that I think I may well be pulling another very soon!
Good news this morning. OH is allowed home for a few hours between anti-biotics this afternoon!!

Glad the forum is back on now. That's great news BB that OH is coming home this afternoon he will be pleased to be able to get out of the hozzy for a few hours. Its a lovely day here with the sun shining. Parsnips and sweetcorn sounds great too Miranda- can't beat growing your own. Thanks for the info on the runner bean roots I'll dig around one later to see if I can see the nodules. We are still furniture sorting Sue-a pair of ear plugs sound handy with that cockrel crowing in the mornings!

That's excellent news BB, I bet your OH will be pleased to see the back of the hospital for a few hours It sounds like you've done well with the parsnips too Miranda. Good luck with getting the rest of the furniture sorted Richard. I made some tomato and chilli relish this morning (well, I had to find something to do while the forum was going to be offline ) and it's come out really well. I put some on a corned beef sarni for my lunch and it tasted good. I'll make a new thread and put the recipe up in a mo.

That's good that your husband is being freed from the hospital for a few hours, BB. It will be nice to have him home for a while. That relish sounds very good, Sue. I shall have to try it here! It's a really grotty day here, grey and chilly. I'm sitting here looking at the layer of leaves that is starting to cover the gravel in the courtyard. It's going to be a pain to clear them up without including the gravel. One use I've found for them is to put a handful into the bottom of our little kitchen bucket that we use for peelings. The leaves soak up the moisture, which stops the bucket smelling or getting grotty.

That's a good idea Miranda to put the leaves in the bottom of the compost bucket, I usually line ours with a sheet of newspaper which helps soak up the moisture. I scooped loads of leaves out of the pond yesterday and will probably be doing the same almost every day until the Silver birch in next door's garden has shed all it's leaves. It's drizzling here now.

That relish sounds good Sue-we'll be having a go at that but with some green tomatoes! We've been sorting out cupboards today- old papers/letters/photos/books-why did we keep so much! Our paper recycling bin is full again now and it was only emptied this morning by the council. Its gone cold and grey here again so we put the heating on and having some .

Hope that cuppa warmed you up nicely Richard. You certainly are keeping busy with emptying the house out, hope you remembered to tear off any of your name, address or other personal info off the letters before putting them in the recycling bin and put the bits you've torn off into your own compost bin

We bought a shredder a while back for unwanted letters and we put the shreds in the compost bin. When it's not full to the brim that is(as at present!).
OH came home this afternoon and stayed until just before 6pm. It was nice to have him home, even for a short while, and we all made a bit of a fuss of him, Missy included! Now he has gone back but can come home again later in the week for a few hours again between drips.
Have a nice shopping trip tomorrow Richard, hope you find your brown sugar. I think there's a song title in there somewhere!
