Ha Ha  Really though Miranda is quite right it was her thread,I just made the first reply to it, I made the 1000th and the 2000th post on the thread I think? also Miranda is right about chunks of the thread being axed out it was way longer, but they've kept almost to the start point. I've been at the stables today helping OH paint the fence with some old oil and paraffin mixed in. I didn't walk today though we went in the van, when I got home we had a leaflet from the council, we haven't to separate our recycling as much now? we still have to put paper out in a tub and cardboard in a separate tub, but now the glass tin and plastic bottles all go into one new wheelie bin that will be delivered soon? anyway it will be easier for me that way, and we are getting fully assisted collections, so the bin men and women will come in and collect the wheelie bins and tubs from me rather than having to wheel them out to the street, my garden is long at the front and on a slope,so it's difficult to pull bins up or down even when empty. I would never have had the savvy to start this thread and so Miranda must take all the credit on her ownYes, And Richardpeej in my opinion you are more than welcome to come along and join us here and I am happy that you have chosen to do so, we are all likeminded people who share a common interest, although fromtime to time things can get a little heated, but it's never my fault because I am way younger than Miranda and sue1002, who always try and encourage me to do something stupidEmbarrassedBig Smile

Thanks alot Digger, I think this forum is great. We have two wheelie bins, one for paper and one for general rubbish. We also have one bin for cans+plastic bottles, and another one for glass! and , there is also another bin collection for garden waste but we don't have one of those bins as I compost whatever I can. We are on the flat here so no problems with steps or slopes -unlike when we used to live in Wales!  I am putting some photos together of the back garden to give you all some idea what I have there. I'll put a link to them when I have sorted some out.  CheersBeer

You have lots of nice plants and colour there Richard and made good use of every available space.

As the others have said, anyone is welcome to join in here, we've got to know each other quite well and I know some people don't like it from what has been said in threads elsewhere but if it bothers them, they don't have to read itSmile

That's handy you will get help with the bin collections Digger.

Hope everyone gets the good weather again today for doing something in the garden, it's nice and sunny here with a lovely breeze to go with it.

What a pretty place you've made, Richard! I bet you enjoy sitting out there.

I started this thread so that posters could go off-topic and get to know each other so everyone is welcome. I dislike exclusivity and am always pleased when someone new joins in.

That's good about the bins, digger. I'm glad we don't need help with our bins because we have to drag them about 100m. Just as well we don't generate much rubbish!

We've got rain in the forecast, but it hasn't arrived yet.

Hi all, Yes you have a splendid garden Richardpeeej, I especially like the decorative shed,it looks great. we've had rain already here today but it's still quite warm. I'm glad the recycling is going to be easier, sorting jars and lids and tins and paper labels etc.. was a chore and the plastic bottles had to go into a seperate bag. Now all theree things can go into one bin which is much easier. I like new people to join in as well especially on this thread it's not a clique at all everyone is welcome, this thread was the subject of a question by a fellow user once who thought the RHS wouldn't approve, as the topics were not always horticulture related. The RHS responded saying they were pleased about this thread and it had helped to create the community that they had hoped for, need we say more it does exactly what it's supposed to do all credit to Miranda.!

And you are very good at putting links into your mails, Richardpeeej!

Your posting made me realise that I had just started talking on this well established idle chat thread as well.  I was glad to see your replies and hope they apply to me as well!

Thanks all for your comments on my back garden, and for your kind words of welcome - I really enjoy spending time out there:- 1).growing veg and flowers, 2) chasing away the slugs, snails and cabbage white butterflies,3). Having some meals and a gass of wine ( but not always in that order).

I didn't know how to put links from my posts to pictures and videos Susiq until I had some advice from Miranda and  Sue. I have taken a lot of photographs and am finding trouble keeping track of them all with dates, duplicates etc. I have even deleted some that I wanted to keep, instead of deleting some  of the focus ones! I find now that it is better to take a few at time and save them in a more methodical way.

Nice garden, Richard. It looks lush and healthy.

I picked some ripe tomatoes today! They were Aunty Madge. I'd expected other varieties to ripen first, but Madge has overtaken them. I don't think the others are too far behind.

Whether you think you can do a thing, or think you cannot, you are right.

    Hi everyone,

I have been enjoying reading your 'idle chat' for some time now without joining in. In the light of the warm welcome you have given to richardpeeej I have plucked up courage to join in (though I have tried to get involved in other threads - mostly about the pea trial). I also really enjoy all things gardening related and have a garden attached to the house which is just big enough to incorporate a veggie patch (3 raised beds) currently I'm growing runner beans, beetroot, french beans, cauliflower, cabbage, sprouts, leeks, carrots, mangetout and parsnips. I also have tomatoes in pots and strawberries in a planter. I had a fantastic crop of 1st early potatoes this year (sadly now all eaten). Anyway - by way of an introduction I attach a couple of picsLooking towards veg patch by you. and hope you don't mind too much another newbie.Lawn and borders

Hi BB, what a lovely garden and you live inHereford right in the middle of apple country! Well done for plucking up the courage to join in the thread Yes this is great there's you, bigsusan55 and richardpeej, all of you are most welcome to join in, the forum can only get better, I can understand it may be a little daunting at first joining into a forum or thread, especially if you're not too sure what to say. Everyone's friendly here though, but we do have ding dongs now and again (like most families) in a mornign I am really subdued and it takes me 3 or four coffees before I become coherent, now and again I get my dander up but usually, Miranda sue1002, Phot's, susiq or anemone will come along and calm things down. I have excellent fun here and I usually visit many times a day, at times this forum has been a lifeline for me especially in the winter months when depression sets in! but this thread is the best and we have loads of fun chatting, welcome aboard my friend!

Another lovely garden! Those lillies look as though they'll be wonderful. Are they scented ones?

Welcome BB! It's really good that you've decided to join in Yes Be aware that any trouble is always digger's fault, he starts it all.

Your garden looks really lovely. The lilies look like they will be magnificent, but I have to say that my eyes went straight to the beans (food of the gods). Have you picked many yet?  If you start swapping seed round here, then of course that lawn will have to go... Wink

Ripe toms, Phot's? Ours are on the cusp of ripening. Was it me or Sue that you had the seeds from?
