I've got one of those magnetic things Richard, they come in really handy for picking up things from small spaces, we got ours off a market stall for £1 a couple of years ago.

It's lucky no-one got injured digger, got any ideas how it started?

We apparently had a huge thunderstorm during the night, I didn't hear a thing but the water butt is half full when it was almost empty.  We haven't had any rain so far during the day but it is clouding over.

That sounds like a good bit of excitement, digger.  When we lived in Lincolnshire, there was the occasional explosion at the steel works a couple of miles away and we heard a few of them.

I also have one of those magnets on a stick - Sue gave it to me when we met a couple of years ago and I've played with it a lot. I leant it to my dad when he came out of hospital and haven't had it back yet.

Yes, labradors do seem to be clever. I've made friends with the black lab who lives on the farm where our garden is. She's called Star and when she sees me now she comes bounding over to say hello and get some fuss. When her human went away a couple of weeks ago, we looked after Star and she took us both on different walks. The walk she took me on was quite long and she kept turning round every so often to smile. I had no idea where we were, but after about an hour of tramping through fields and hedgerows, we ended up back at the farm.

We had rain during the night as well, but not very much. Glad to say that it's cooled down a lot Smile This is more like a proper English summer - cool, overcast and windy.

Hi all, It's still raining here but not too much now,the ground will have been watered well at least. The bin wagon driver told me that he was sitting in the cab waiting for some bin men to put wheelie bins on the back of the wagon, then there was a big bang and flames went as high as a house. So he jumped out and the car next to the wagon set fire as well, I think the firemen will be able to tell what started the fire off. I went to look and the fireman told me to get back from the car because it was still dangerous. I'll go and sort out some pictures

It was very exciting but luckily the bin wagon man got away safely. It was raining really hard when the fire happened, the firemen were brave when the car blew up they carried on squirting it, if it was me I would have run away! I asked one fireman if I could have a go at squirting the foam gun all over the raods, but he said " I can't let you have a go because everyone will want to try it and we still need to put the fire out" then he said "don't stand here digger it's too dangerous, go and stand with your OH at the shop and watch from there" OH said " Digger you are a menace keep out of the way till they have finished putting the fire out" The bin man's boss turned up she was a miserable old cow!, I told her that the bin wagon driver can put in a money claim for post traumatic stress disorder, because he had shock on his face still. The wagon will probably go on display for people to see at the bin wagon yard in town, I'm going to go and see the place after the rag and bone man collects all the junk, maybe the tarmac will be burned and melted like when an ied goes off? maybe there will be spare parts left on the bin wagon that can be saved for other wagons? it's getting exciting in these parts hereabouts, the other week we had the wild dog and all the cops with real guns and now we've had the exploding wagon.

I hope you get your magnet thingy back Miranda when your dad has finished playing with itWink  Did you get the thunderstorm with the rain?  It was overcast here earlier but that's disappeared and things have brightened up.

Stunning pictures digger, I bet the car owner wasn't happy seeing his car wrecked but he should be able to put in a claim off the Council for a replacement.  I'm not surprised the bin driver was shocked, I would have been too.

Good pictures, digger? You could sell them to the local paper. It must have terrified the poor driver, I hope the company are nice to him. Yes, I bet the car owner was very cross indeed.

I don't think we did get any thunder, Sue. At least I didn't hear any. I love a good thunder storm and am still hopeful that we'll get one at some point.

I think I'll have get another magnet thing and let my dad keep that one, Sue. They're very useful things and fun to play with. We went round the house trying to stick it to everything that looked vaguely metallic and seeing what weight it would lift.

Gosh, that looks a bit too exciting for me! Sounds like the firemen did a great job.

Still really dry and sunny here. I was sure it rained in the night, but I must have dreamt it as I left my big plastic tub out to fill up and it was completly dry.

Hello all- well I have had a busy day today just come in from the back garden, I have been out there off and on nearly all day dodging the thundery showers - I just hope thats not the end of our british summer!. I've been transplanting my tomatoes in larger pots (I am late with them this year), transplanting lettuce and butternut squash plants, mending a leak in my hose pipe, sorting out my compost bin (Thanks Phot's Moll for advice), washing out plant pots, tidying up my shed and getting my car to start as I haven't used it for about 2 months, and also helping my wife to make pasties and bakestones - I am sat down now but my feet are aching OOOOUUCCHH! Digger, I can see that you had some fun and games today with the bin lorry and car fire it must have caused quite a commotion there with all that foam and water all about the place. Sue, Miranda, I find the 'magnetic stick gadget' very useful in the shed for picking up screws, nails etc. I was surprised that it picked up 1p and 2p coins also, I always thought they were made of copper! -it won't pick up other coins though. I will be offline for about a week now but will catch up with you all again soon - Cheers for now

    Richard

Hi all, see you back in a week richars it's sounds like you need a rest my friend! Today is warm and sunny again, last night I went to the lottie whilst OH was at the stables, the ground has had a good soaking from all that rain we got in the space of a couple of hours, when I wa sat the lottie I could hear the water in the valley gushing down the beck! normally it's a wide slow moving beck, but it must've been a white water job last night! at least the ducks will have some fun rafting. Today the children are out all day and night staying at relatives for the night Yes OH is out with the dogs (the young ones at least) I'm left here with Richard and Piper, (three old biddies togetherBig Smile) I'm off for some more coffee and a wander round the back garden i'll check in later.

WOW Digger! what amazing pictures - it really has all been happening round your way lately!

I've been off line as I've had problems trying to download a new version of Internet explorer (v8) had to cancel it in the end as the damn thing wouldn't load (me being useless I think computer-wise!)

You did make me laugh Sue1002 - I have always refused to have a green car (I don't know where the superstition came from?) - and I used to have a red escort that totally faded in colour - what is it about red cars???

Thanx Miranda, got to see your pics on photobucket - looking really good.

Sorry to hear the bad luck everyone seems to have been having with the Cleome's - I don't want to tempt fate here, but they appear to be coming on great guns so far (thanx Sue). Big thanx to Phot's too for all the marigolds - we actually have sun here today, so am off to get some pics this afternoon.

I don't bother with IE Susiq, had so many problems with it a couple of years ago and use Firefox instead.

Anyone I know with green cars has always had accidents in them, I think that superstition goes a long way back.  I don't like the colour purple for a car either and there's plenty of those about.  I went to look at a car yesterday (on my own) and left very soon after it was started up, it was the worst sounding engine I've ever heard.

It's good to hear your Cleomes are doing well too, once they start getting taller, the snails do tend to leave them alone, looks like you might be saving me some seed as I'd used all mine upWink

I sowed cleomies - at least I thought I did. What came up were excho, no esxol, no ech, er californian poppies.

I have the weekend off and planned to do loads off stuff at home then weed and water the allotment. However I found a better useof my time - I've been sprawled on the grass in a patch of shade, looking at my lovely garden, listening to buzzing bees, smelling the herbs, pinks and jasmine and drinking a very cold gin and tonic!

No point having a garden if we never take time to enjoy it.
