I've been working hard down the allotment. I only came home for something to eat and to rest my back a bit. Picked rhubarb, salad leaves and leeks. The rhubarb is from out the forcing pot and looks and tastes great (picked some last week, but the ground was too wet to dig then)Better get back to it - I've got onion sets that I want to get in and maybe a few seeds ...

The longest it took for my chillies to germinate was 57 days so don't give up just yet, Anemone, they might come through for you.

Yes, I also take ibuprofen and find it works well for me. My shoulder seems to be okay most of the time now, though. I like the parade pics, looks like fun.

I haven't seen any frogspawn yet this year but will keep an eye out for it. There is a huge pond where our garden is, but it's got fish in it and they eat the spawn - we should dig another one in our garden really. Hadn't heard about the middle of the pond thing.

Been sowing seed today, while my partner was mending the greenhouse - several panes were broken and there is a lot of ivy growing over it. Rather than put in new glass, we covered the gaps with polytunnel plastic and hopefully that'll suffice. I also started off the Oca tubers (have you done yours yet, Sue and digger?). I put between three and five to a pot, depending on the size of the tubers and we've ended up with 43 pots! If they all come on, there will be lots and we can hand some more on. I wrote a page about them if anyone wants to look: http://wildchicken.com/nature/garden/ga018_growing_oca.htm

There is rain forecast for early next week - hope it does, because it's been a while.

Hi - I'm on my tea break too Phot's. Big Smile The potatoes are in and I've weeded everywhere else and put down either polythene to warm up the soil or prickly sticks to keep the cats off.  I also fed everything - fruit bushes, broad beans, onions, garlic and purple sprouting.  I have to go up to the cemetery soon before it closes to do the flowers for Mothers Day so I probably won't get back out today.

The idea about the frogspawn Miranda is that if it's going to be a hot summer the frogs will lay their spawn in the middle of the ponds so it isn't vulnerable if there's a drought.  I'm sure there's not that much in it but it does have a certain logic.

Mmm, too late for the chillis Embarrassed I had some busy lizzie plugs delivered in the post today - I'd forgotten they were free with a seed order from T&M.  Well, I hadn't figured on having to find windowsill space for 84 busy lizzie plants so I had to re-organise and there was a cull of everything that wasn't pulling its weight!

I've never tasted Oca - you'll have to describe what it tastes like. I'll have a read of your page when I get back from the cemetery. Smile

I put my first earlies in this weekend last year Phot's.  The year before everything was much later though as I only dug my first veg bed in April.

Read your blog Miranda and I see you've described how the Oca tastes.  Yes  Hopefully you will get a good crop this year.

     Hello all,

I have been really busy but keeping up with everyone here. Mark has also been ill with Vertigo for the past 2 weeks so it has been hectic here.

I have a question that I hope someone can answer....does any body have the *little RHS booklet* that has a yellow crocosmia photo in it?? I have a lady coming by tomorrow and she wants one but does not know the name of it. It would be so much easier if I knew what it was.....LOL

Well off to start more seed and take a few orders off the emails...

    Hugs to all

    Lauri

if you clear it, plant it....the weeds will come!! So plant more!!!

I don't know which little booklet that might be. I've looked through the current members handbook, but the only crocosmia I saw was Severn Sunrise - it doesn't look yellow to me!Sorry to hear Mr C hasn't been well. I hope he recovers soon.

Happy Mothers Day everyone - you too digger.

Hope Mr C is better soon Mrs C - I knew someone who used to suffer from vertigo a few years ago and it was terribly debilitating and it didn't help that people thought he was putting it on because their understanding of the condition was as a "fear of heights".  Sorry I can't help with the booklet either.

I left the cold frame wide open all night but think I got away with it as there was no frost, phew.  It's not quite as good here as yesterday was but the forecast is still for a dry, pleasant day.  We're going to dinner at my sisters house too. Yes

Happy mother's day to all the mums from me too, my son gave me some flowers and some chocolatesBig Smile

Hope Mr C is feeling better soon Mrs C.

It sounds like everyone is doing well with various garden bits, the purple sprouting has now got their first purple bits and should be ready for picking in a couple of days.

I put the oca out to chit last weekend Miranda (or it might have been the weekend before, I can't quite remember, the brain's a bit fuzzled at the mo).

Lucky you Anemone not having to cook today, I will be doing a roast later and have already made the malteser cheesecake for afters.  I gave that recipe to OH's sister and she enjoyed it so much that all her workmates have a copy of it too.

    That's sounding good Phot's.

I've taken down half the bubble wrap in the greenhouse today and will take the rest down tomorrow and now more light is getting in, perhaps some more of the chillies will germinateSmile

    Hi everyone.

That is a special recipe Sue1002 - I've yet to meet anyone who hasn't liked it.  I still haven't had an opportunity to make the Lemon Mousse - as the boys aren't keen it will have to wait until there's more than just us - still looking forward to it.  Hope your plan works and you get more chillis through.

Great about your seeds Phot's and I understand that feeling. Big Smile

Substantial rain this morning but I can't complain as it's the first we've had in a couple of weeks and it's watering in my potatoes nicely.

Hi all, we've got a bright start to the week but it's very windy today.  The rain is supposed to hit us this afternoon and it looks like we will be in for a wet week.

Hope Mr C is feeling better soon, Mrs C! I used to get dizziness after long haul flights and it could go on for about three weeks and be a real nuisance, so I sympathise.

We've got rain forecast as well and I hope it turns up because the ground is very dry. There are some very cold days and nights forecast so I hope you weren't too soon in taking down your bubblewrap, Sue!

I was wondering that myself this morning Miranda as I was taking the rest of the bubblewrap down, the wind was howling well and blew one of the greenhouse doors off the runner while I was in there.  The heater is still switched on so that will help but it is a lot lighter in there now which will help the plants.
