Oh, my!!  That sounds terrible about Susieq!!  I do hope she will be all right and back with us very soon.

So, the weather is getting chilly there, too?  We had frost warnings, and it went to low 40's, but hoovering.  I collected all of my houseplants off the back porch on Saturday evening, so that was easy.  I had dug up my agapanthus bulbs a couple of weeks ago so they were ready to come in as well.  Those things didn't flower for me this year.  They are new plants.  It will be interesting to see what they do over winter inside the house.

Looks like you had a big evening from that picture, Digger.  I haven't ever tried Humax.  Only cheapie Park Seed starter plugs for seeds.  I only start a small portion of my garden from seed.  Don't think the force ten blew your greenhouse apart or we would have heard about it.  That's good.

It's not quite so nippy here this morning as it was the last couple of mornings, the wind is supposed to hit us later but all is quite calm at the mo.

I'm going to have a go today with the apple butter recipe that Miranda gave us and make some apple pies for the freezer.

Hi all, it's 12 degrees here as the wind is a Southerly, unusual for us and so far ... dare I say it no damageSurprise

the wind is gusting at the moment rather than going at full bore constantly. Boggy is quite right on the other thread, I have made my bed and should lay in it. But it's far too expensive to live any further South than Pendle and I've got a menagerie in tow, I shall stay and batten down the hatches! The front garden is looking awfully bare, now that the big shrubs are out as well? OH is still waiting for me to offer an alternative suggestion to gravel and if I cannot find a suitable one it will end up as gravel.

It's good to hear you have no damage digger, it makes a changeSmile  The wind is picking up a bit more here now.

The apple butter has come out ok and I should be able to make room in the freezer for the apple pies.  I've used loads of apples today but from the huge amount we have picked, the pile doesn't look any smaller.

I had only one apple this year, i think moving the trees will have had something to do with it, how many apples did you harvest sue1002,? I have to say so far the wind hasn't been too fierce for long spells just mad gusts. OH has doubled the stable doors so the horses won't get spooked by the wind too much, and socks the cat is now doing fine her anti biotic course is finished today.

Arg! Poor Susiq!! What a horrible thing to happen, I hope she gets better soon.

It's really windy here and I haven't been out much, only to secure our flimsy polythene greenhouse which I had to weight down with rocks round the bottom to stop it blowing away. Looking out of the window, I can see birds being blown about.

Hope the apple butter is a success, Sue!

It's good to hear that Socks has recovered well digger, did you ever find out who was responsible?

Your apple trees should do a lot better next year, perhaps you only got one apple because you moved the trees at the wrong time of year.  I've weighed the apples that haven't been used yet and have 14kg left.  I must have used around 3-4kg of them today.  The one little tree has done really well this year (apart from being affected by scab).  OH picked them all off the tree on Sunday while I was clearing out the greenhouse and we've eaten a few since, then there's also some that went rotten and Sasha has half inched countless number of them as they've been growing, she prefers them sour to ripe.

I've had a taste of the apple butter Miranda and I like it, I quartered the recipe to see how it came out and will definitely do some more.

Hope you have some strong rocks to keep the greenhouse down so that the whole lot doesn't take off.  Since the wind has been up here, I haven't seen any birds about.

Yes, digger, good to hear that Socks is on the mend! And hope your apple trees perform better next year. Whilst the trees in our new garden had a good crop, they've been badly affected by scab and brown rot so they can't be stored. We've spent endless hours peeling and preparing them these last few weeks.

Good to hear that you like the apple butter, Sue :-) Cheeky Sasha - it's funny to see dogs going for fruit that way - I've known a few do it. One dog I knew would take green beans and my dad's old dog would nip off any raspberries he could reach. Our Toby had a taste for ripe strawberries.

The greenhouse is weighted with rocks, a heavy planter and part of the garden bench. It ain't pretty but it seems to be working, though a few rips have appeared along the seams. We'll tape them up when the wind drops.

It sounds like quite a lot of people have been affected with scab this year, it must be something to do with both this summer and last being so wet.  I will cook up some tomorrow to freeze which can be used in crumbles and I must make a point when shopping tomorrow NOT to buy anything to go in the freezer and start finishing up packets of things that are already openSmile

Hope you don't get too many more rips in the greenhouse cover Miranda, duct tape should make a good repair job.

Hi all still blowing a hoolie up here, but I'm beyond worrying about it now. It's funny what the dogs will eat Richard likes grapes and bananas and apples, i think he eats them because Sally does? Piper doesn't eat any fruit at all, and Meg who is still on the farm at Burnley wasn't a fruit eater, this year Sally busied herself digging potatoes up and eating them, I dug some for dinner one day and left the potatoe patch unguarded once Sally knew the spuds were there they were on borrowed time.

Just catching up with posts.  Do hope Susiq is feeling better, that was just awful.

My dog Kai enjoys blackberrying with me, forages for himself straight off the  bush!

Digger, thanks for info on pic.  I wish we had a local garden society like yours.

Hi all, Beebee it's not difficult to start your own garden club, just a venue and a couple of enthusiastic friends is all you need. Today is not raining here and not too windy, the storm didn't cause too much damage yesterday thank goodness I was dreading the aftermath!

You should have trained Sally to bring the potatoes in digger instead of eating themWink.  It is funny that different dogs go for different things - Sasha likes fruit and will not touch the veg, whereas Sam loved his veg but not fruit.

The wind had died right down here now, and we've had some rain which looks like it's clearing up now but I wasn't impressed when I had to make a dash from the car into the supermarket, the heavens opened as I got out of it!
