I saw this plant last July and have been meaning to id ever since. I would be grateful for any help. Looks a bit like a Dianthus of some kind. It was growing among grass at the side if a path about 18" high. Thanks

It looks a bit like some form of dwarf Mallow to me but an expert should be able to help, if they are still visiting this site.

Not a brilliant photograph it would help if one of the flowers was fully open. Does the foliage smell? Looks,
to me, like a member of the daisy family, possibly a mayweed or
chamomile. Have a look here https://www.plantlife.org.uk/uk and here
http://www.wildlifetrusts.org/wildlife/species-explorer/wildflowers for
pictures.

I still think it looks like a Mallow. Try looking up in a wild flowers listing. Musk Mallow looks the most likely. https://uk.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=AwrJQ5tgGrVa2BQAPQ9LBQx.;_ylu=X3oDMTEydGs0ZTRxBGNvbG8DaXIyBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDQjM0NzFfMQRzZWMDc2M-?p=musk+mallow&fr=nectar-tb-v3#id=13&iurl=https%3A%2F%2Fc1.staticflickr.com%2F9%2F8028%2F7709856980_4c99178397_z.jpg&action=click
