This is just a general enquiry. Has anyone else noticed that the butterflies are still around? Unfortunately, I disturbed a Tortoiseshell in the garage the other day but was able to get it out of the door and back into the garden. I know they overwinter in garden sheds etc, but I am surprised by the number that are still out and flying in spite of the cold snaps we've been having. I don't expect to see them at these temperatures in the Midlands. Anyone else observed this apparent change in behaviour?

Not seen ladybirds in quite a while but today there were bumble bees with pollen sacs on their legs. Not big enough for queens but are there still young to be fed and yet to be born? Today it was 11C but it has been way down to 3C here already this autumn/winter. They'd better find shelter soon as it's going to get really cold later this week, I believe.
