Hi sv, I'm pretty sure tree peonies do not root easily if at all from cuttings. Seed sowing and layering seem to be the most popular methods by home gardeners. I guess you've looked at this RHS page: Blackstart

As Blackstart mentiond  tree peonies are not easy from cuttings. The yellow tree peony comes from seed readily.

This link referes to propagation This ties up with my experience when I bought a hybrid that had been grafted onto a herbaceous root stock; unfortunately did not go on to produce it's own roots.

Blackstart thanks and yes I do read the RHS pages first but it said there are 4 types of semi ripe cuttings and I didn't know which one it is. My yellow one Paeonia lutea ludlowii self seeds and I have had some success with the seedlings which have come true. The one I am trying to do now is red. I potted some pieces of dry stem that had a healthy bud and they seem to be doing well. Sleepy violet
