I have medium to heavy clay which is getting harder and harder to dig as I grow older (I'm 74 years old). For my brassicas patch can I just cover it with weed control black plastic to keep the weeds down and then plant the sprouts etc directly into this soil without digging it over as Brassicas like firm ground? Or should I dig it over now and let it settle over the winter

My concern would be the potential build up of soil born disease, such as club root, if grown in the same place every year. As for planting through weed control fabric I don't see that as a problem.
