I have the common yellow flag iris. The green stems are fading and splayed out all over the ground and path. May I cut the stems off now? Petal

Once the leaves & stems have lost their colour it is fine to tidy them up. Agreed best off the path as they can be slippery.

Thanks. Some of them are still very green. Can I cut those off? petal

Can they be pushed away from the path? I don't think it is critical at this time of year. If you like it tidy or there is a worry about slipperiness I'd cut them off. They are tough plants & won't come to harm.

I went for it this morning and cut that all off. What is surprising is that there were new shoots under all of them. Thank you for your help. petal

In my last message I said that I was surprised to find new shoots underneath the flag irises I cut down. Should they be shooting now? petal
