I have spread 2 - 3 inches of compost over part of my veg patch which I usually dig in. I am now being advised to save my back and leave it to the worms - and by March next year the rotovator will finish the job quite easily. Any advice?

I never dig if I can possibly avoid it. As soon as you disturb the ground weed seeds will be exposed to the light and start growing.
