Hi All, have just received my study packs from HCC in order to learn for my RHS cert via long distance learning. Is anyone else out there in the process of learning via correspondance? Would anyone else like to chat about how they are doing, what we are doing, when we get stumped on lessons etc etc? Thought it would be a nice idea. Drop me a line! Lisa

hello hedgewitch, Hope you have a great time studying with the HCC towards the RHS 2 Level. I quite enjoyed studying by correspondance with the HCC. There were one or two lessons I had a bit a harder time getting through with, but I survived! I'd be interested in hearing from you how you're getting along, which subjects you find harder which ones easier. I did the exam in March and am now still waiting for the results... regards

Hi, I'm new to this board and have just started to study for the RHS Level 2 Certificate. When I say just, I got the first CD last Saturday so I'm really new and am on page 2 or 3 of the study. I'm doing the course through Extending Learning Opportunities. But I expect its the same. I'm very much enjoying it at the moment, which is a good job as I have along way to go yet. But getting more and more addicted to plants.

That's kind of you digger. I have to admit, though, that a couple of days before the exam I got into a right old state and started throwing up. That's never happened before, but it turned out okay in the end. I still have all my class notes, the handouts we were given and notes of my own, if that's any help. [Edited on 14/02/2006]

Sad to say that course been done for over a year, Tracey. I'd have been happy for it to continue for at least another five years ;-) It was easily the best and most enjoyable course I've ever done and I enjoyed every minute of it. Hints and tips - one of the best tips we were given was to look at our own gardens often enough so that we could visualise all the plants. It makes a great personal database, that information. The other thing was to visit as many open gardens as you can and talk to as many gardeners as you can. As you're doing a corrrespondence course, that could be really helpful. [Edited on 26/03/2006]

Hi Becky I sat this exam in March too. I found it quite hard, I think I expected the essay questions to be a bit more practical. Now not sure what to think, whether I've passed or not. What did you think?

Where are you studying it, what format does it take. I did it through a college with practical lessons once a month and studying the theory myself with classes for the last 8 weeks.

Hi JG I did the exam in March 2005, but you couldn't know =) =) I actually did the whole course by correspondance with HCC. 12 (or was it 10?! can't quite remember!) different units to work through, at the end of which there are always 4 questions to answer like in the exam. I had a good "correspondance" tutor, whom I could ask anything about anything and he'd know it! It was quite a lot of work, since at the same time I had school and work still going on (apprenticeship as gardener), but I enjoyed it very much and was glad when I passed the exam. Well, hope you've passed, don't worry too much about it, won't help at all! =)

Belinda - hi, Like you, I have just started the RHS level2 cert. I'm doing it distance learning with Learning Curve. It has been sitting on my dining room table for the past month while I thought of new excuses not to open it up, but tonight I ran out of excuses and lo and behold I'm really enjoying learning again!!! Ecosystems, Niches, Food Webs & Communities "what's that all about then?" It 's aeons since I had to sit down and actually try to learn things and remember it all, but it's starting to sink in (I hope). Do you find it hard trying to structure your learning and set aside so much time each day, or do you just do it when it feels right? I find that self motivation is a problem, that evil television in the corner keeps telling me to turn it on. Hopefully there are other people out there who can keep me on track via this bulletin board. Look forward to hearing from you, Robin.
