I planted a geranium Rozanne three years ago, which was spectacular in its first year of flowering -- lovely deep blue with white eye, and in flower until December. Last year and this it has been covered with slightly undistinguished pale pink flowers -- has anyone else had this happen? Any idea of its cause? Thank you for any thoughts! Sarah

At least you got some flowers! I haven't had any this year, maybe one or two last year. Compared to my other geraniums it's been pathetic.

It's covered in flowers -- just not very interesting ones! But better than none... I was so pleased with it the first year, that I put in three more plants, which have started flowering this year, with the proper flowers; if they all turn pink next year (or stop flowering) they can come out again! I'm very keen on cranesbills, but if it doesn't stay true, there are better ones available.

Could your pink one be a seedling from other hardy geraniums nearby. They mostly seem to revert to a muddy pink and for me the seedlings turn up everywhere -including in the middle of more desirable plants. Not to sound smug but my rozanne must be 5 or 6 years old. It vanishes to nothing in the winter but comes back bigger every year. I have split it twice, given bits to friends and all come back the proper stunning blue-but a bit later than this so it is only just starting to flower now. Are the leaves identical to your new plants?

Elsewhere that could be a possibility, but I don't grow any pink cranesbills nearby except a sanguineum lancastriense, which is obviously very different. It's definitely still the rozanne -- the leaves are quite distinctive. I shall hope for better luck with my other plants! But thanks for the suggestion. I remember those ubiquitous pink ones -- Wargrave pink? -- which flower all the time and get everywhere, which ought to be a good thing, but somehow isn't; not one I grow any more.

Here is my pathetic geranium Rozanne. I was surprised to see 1 flower on it. I haven't seen any others this year. Definitely a sad looking plant even though it's had about 3 years to get established. I am not impressed with this variety!

Neither the leaves nor the flower look like my rozanne. The flowers are much bigger and the leaves have a paler line about 1/2 way up. You have been sold a pup!
