Can anyone tell me why so many unripe strawberries are falling off even when they are still green. I don't know what variety as this is on an " inherited" patch. I believe the plants are about two years old. With all the rain we have had this summer I have lost many berries because they are going soft quickly but these are quite different. Firm and green. Grown on sand, well draining soil. Would be glad of any help.

I have noticed same happening too where the soil conditions are similar to yours. I assume it could be to do with the weather and its effects. Sandy soil + heavy rain = loss of nutrients and strawberries are plants that will need fair bit of  fertility to able to grow and ripen good crop of berries.

Other possibility is that if the berries weren't fertilized  properly during bad weather, it could prompt the plants to drop those berries.
