    What's going on here then? http://www.flickr.com/photos/stevemarvell/sets/72157630370591166/detail/ I found it in a local garden. I'm pretty sire it's a gerbera, but not 100% Is this unusual? Regards Steve

    This looks like a case of fasciation, which happens to quite a number of plants from time to time. If you google 'fasciation' and look at images, you'll see some pictures of other plants similarly affected.
