i have a buddleia globosa, 3 metres+ tall and exposed to very high winds from open fields. the plant hasnt leafed very well this year and it has finally put out some very small flowers. i have cut some of the dead branches and there is probably 50% of the plant is now dead non leafing branches. i was leaning some of the thicker stumps at the base left over from cutting back a couple of years ago and they have just collapsed and i ended up pulling quite a few 20cm wide stumps that have a patchy covering of white fungus where each stem was attached. ive dug around the plant and cant find any tell tale boot laces that are indicative of honey fungus and an apricot tree very nearby doesnt seem to be suffering any fungus or rotting. i was just wondering how long buddleia should live for-not that i know how old this one is. i'll post a pic of some of the rot so someone can chime in and scare me with a diagnosis of honey fungus! Doesn't sound good. To be honest. IMHO it does not always prove beneficial to attemt to breathe new life into some plants.
At the moment. The nurseries and garden centers are doing pretty well, compared to a few years ago. Hence, some very good subjects can be purchased cheaply. You can of course, chance some cuttings of what's left of your shrub. Buddlia strikes easy. Truthfully, I have no idea as to the life span of this cultivar. Tip. It might be best to say goodbye to it now. If you can. Replace as much soil as possible in and around where the subject has been growing. I am not sure about the spores of some fungi.
Hope this helps.

Don`t worry your Buddlia should recover,Trim back existing growth to about 3-4 pairs of leaves,The new shoots will flower next year,You can also take cuttings when dormant they root easily,Old stems do rot & can be removed as you have done
