Dead head them you might get another flush of flowers unless you want to save the seed

Yes.  If the plant is aged, there is a strong possibility of a second flowering.  Unfortunately.  Lupins. Delphiniums and Hostas, are a no go for me.  Slugs and snails dictate the rules, despite sprays, watering etc with chemicals and also copper bands.  Slugs around here, re-inact the great escape except that they tunnel into instead of, out of.

Cut off the flowers after they have died and you will get a second flush of smaller flowers, After these second flowers have died, cut the whole plant, everything, down to within 10cm of the ground. The plant will come back with fresh green leaves instead of the tired old leaves AND you may even get some more flowers. CB

Mine are about three years old, and I get a second flush of flowers. Even if they're not mature enough for a second lot of flowers, you'll stop the plant using energy producing seeds. I dead head most of my perennials, regardless of whether they will produce more flowers or not, unless of course the seed heads are attractive in themselves.

As far as the slugs go, I don't have any problems - they do decimate delphiniums and campanulas thoughSad
