Hi there,
I just wondered if you`d have any advice at all on what sort of plants I cud plant on a newly made rockery I`m giving a go. I live on the East coast of Scotland, North of Aberdeen, and the rockery is on a east facing slight slope, so it gets the sun until around 3pm maybe. It`s made up of soil and chucky stones and I`ve placed large stones around a bit. I`m a complete beginner and have been trying desperately to tidy up my garden, and to an extent, succeeded in making my main garden at least look `looked after`.
Anyway, thanks for any advice/reply,
Cheers
Davey

Hi Davey
You don't say just how big the area is, but I've got cordalynes in mine (I'm on the north east coast too, just not as far up as you!) They have been in now for about 4 years and are doing great, you can get a variety of colours too, and need very little maintenance. Minature conifers look good, just make sure they are definately of a minature variety! Heathers should do well too where you are, you can get ones that flower at different times of the year, so you would always have some colour interest!
Good luck and happy gardening!

Have a look at dwarf phlox, ajugas, saxifrage, vincas. These are all easy going, bone hardy & are ok on well drained soil. Also dwarf bulbs & aubretia look good too for next spring. Let us know how you get on. Best K

Thanks so much for all ur replies/help, greatly appreciated. Some of the smaller bushy style flowery plants definately look like the sort of thing I`d like. The heather and conifers also like nice.
Also thanks for the recommendation on aubretia. These r exactly the type of plant I`v been searching for to cover a wall I have against my nieghbours house, which will hide the soil and hang down to cover the wall.....plus my fiance has been urging me to go for flowers in her favourite colour, purple! so cheers, I`ll dedicate my brownie points to you.
P.S the rockery area is about 30 square meters, ish.
Thanks again, I`ll let u know how I get on and maybe try postin a few pics of before and after
Cheers
Davey
