Strange new plant

I can't place it as either a wild or a cultivated plant. The insert bottom left is the leaves at the base of theflower spike. It could possibly have come from bird seed.

They will grow and flourish in all sorts of corners, and self-seed all over the place, which can be a bit of a mixed blessing. So now you've got it, you'll probably soon find it everywhere. Alex

  madmuncher Location: Nottinghamshire Joined on: 20 Mar 2010 Posts: 140	Reply | Contact Yes..they do self seed everywhere ......but luckily they are easily weeded out where not wanted and they are not deep rooted so bit of hand weeding or hoe will do the job. I've got them and I love em..not much to look at as such but they do brighten up some bit darker corners and can look quite effective against some darker plants.

In fact it occurred to me that it might be a saxifrage so I googled it in images and found it. Tellima grandiflora purpurea, 'Fringe cup flower' from California. I don't know where our bird seed comes from but I see no more of this plant around here. Perhaps I will become a source of distribution if I am not careful.

Therefore it is probably just plain Tellima grandiflora. I suspect there is a garden somewhere in your area growing it! It is a very common garden plant.
