I find using the strimmer dangerous to my plants survival as I'm pretty clumsy, so I've come up with an answer that others might find useful, unless there is something on the market already that you know of? What it is, is using fence wire that you get in 4" squares (vertical and horizontal bars, welded together). I cut off about two squares in height, bend it round in a circle and clip the ends together. Where I've cut off the bottom of the wire, these prongs I push into the soil, to hold the whole thing in place. The strimmer hits the wire, not the plant and Bob's your uncle - no more gouged woody stems or accidentally beheaded softer plants.

I like the innovation here, plant attacks are one of the main casualties of strimming!

Fab idea :) I'm unbelievably clumsy, so anything that helps me cause less damage has to be good. lol.
