My end boundary to my garden is the back of an ugly garage, belonging to the council.  I am considering using planting to cover it up such as ivy or pyracantha.  My shed stands about 2 foot in front of the shed with my compost bins in between so there's not a huge amount of light and really just a patch of earth about 2ft square right in the corner but this is where i'm hoping to plant something.  I was thinking of using either ivy or pyracantha as something evergreen and wildlife friendly.  Do you think either of these plants would work or has anyone any preference or other suggestions?

    Thanks

     Hi Helen,

If the spot is really nasty - gloomy, poor dry soil, then definitely go for Ivy. Pyracantha is very tough, but Ivy will be the most vigorous in really rubbish conditions. Both are good for wildlife. I'd suggest one of the variegated varieties to brighten the place up.

    Have fun,

Hi Helen, You may like to consider Hydrangea petiolaris (climbing Hydrangea) good plant for a shady area i.e a North facing wall. You will get attractive white flowers , it isn't anywhere near as invasive or destructive as ivy. Regards Justin
