I have decided to try something different in my hanging baskets this year... So have decided to grow the variety 'Sugar and Spice' of Sweet Pea from Thompson and Morgan. Has anyone else tried these and what results did you get???

I've grown them before.  The first ones I grew did very well, were very well fragranced and I saved the seed off those and grew them again the following year where the plants that year grew well and produced some nice multi coloured flowers.  I did this for about 4 years, and got a different combination of colours each year until one of the plants must have reverted back to one of its parents and a plant with 4 foot+ stems looked quite odd in the same basket as it's shorter siblingsWink

The next year I decided to start again with new seed and only half the packet germinated and what did grow, didn't do too well.  Whether it was the seeds that were off or something I'd done wrong, I don't know as since then (2-3 years ago) I've had very little luck even with any sweet pea and I'm giving them a miss this year.

Thanks for that... Yes, I bet that reversion problem looked quite odd.... Germination has been really good from this packet of seeds, so touch wood, they should be great...

Good luck with yours Scott, as you've had a good germination rate, it sounds like you will probably do better than meSmile

I've found a couple of pics that I took of the sweet peas, this one from 2007 was when they had just started flowering that year

and this one is from the following year when I first noticed one was going skywards
