Can anyone tell me if it's safe to eat this bulb?  As it's a member of the onion family I thought I might be able to at least eat the stem, if not the bulb itself.

    Can anyone tell me please?

According to this site, you can eat it, Lynnoot: http://www.pfaf.org/user/Plant.aspx?LatinName=Allium+triquetrum

There is a warning, but that seems to be regarding dogs eating a large amount of it (must have been a silly dog!). A vet told me once that garlic makes dogs anaemic, so maybe that's what that bit is about.
