I've been growing chillis for years, but because Ilike to grow other things, I tend to limit myself to 2 or 3 varieties a year.

Last year I found "Chenzo" to be very agreeable, prolific, and compact, with a fruity flavour and a heat just right for me, so I've saved seeds (hundreds of them) and have germinated the first batch, and will be growing them again.

This year, I'll also be growing "Cayenne"; not terribly original, but nice chillis fresh or dried.

I'll grow a few chillies. I'm limited as I have no greenhouse so start them on windowsills and then plant outside. The best plants are overwintered on the windowsill so I get a few over the colder months and the plants get back into full production early in the summer.

Overwintering peach habenaro, star peppers, an un named pounty red job from saved seed - it's fairly hot, but also quite sweet and quite fleshy and one with tiny fruits that I can't remember the name of. It's very hot.

Whether you think you can do a thing, or think you cannot, you are right.

always good to hear of others growing chillies.. my new polytunnel for my chilli plants has been dispatched and will be here is a few days :) then my 100+ plants (up to now) will have a home This also means that some of my plants will be overwintered, probably the best from each variety and maybe a few will be turned into Bonchi (chilli bonsai) as i think they look amazing and can be used for cuttings etc :) Really quite excited about the 2012 grow season :)

Are you fond of eating chillies? We eat all our, but I think they're also quite attractive plants, especially when there are a mixture of colours and shapes of fruit.

on the subject of eating chillies, i have something spicy everyday, be that fresh or dried chillies, hot sauce, chilli jam etc.. but i do run a hot sauce website so have become a little taken over by it all... I like the slightly different chillies, i have 3 versions of the peter pepper growing this year, red, yellow and orange but i am growing loads of super hots as i am getting more and more used to the heat :D

We love chillies! I started with Bolivian Rainbow when someone gave me some seeds in about 2002 and I've been saving them ever since, selecting for size and flavour each year. Those are the favourite ones, they give you a great buzz. Also played with Yellow 7 Pot, Etna, Diablo and Cayenne. Going to grow most of that list again this year, though however many plants we have, it never seems to be quite enough.

In December 2010, we cooked up about 3L of Tabasco-style sauces and they are quite wonderful. The steam from the cooking had us sweating, sneezing and coughing the whole time :-)

the Yellow 7 Pot is one of my favorite chillies,.. Awesome heat and amazing flavour too, growing a few 7 pot varieties this year myself :) including 7 pot barrakpore, yellow 7 pot, red 7 pot, 7 pot jonah and bubblegum 7's (the later is an unstable variant i think) this year i will have enough chillies as i have over 100 plantsand just taken delivery of a polytunnel :)

Agree, the flavour of the 7 Pot is amazing - very hot but sweet and fruity as well. We made a sauce just using that one and were really pleased with it.

I would LOVE a polytunnel, but the only place we could put it, it would probably blow away like everything does.
