Hi - I am hoping someone might be able to help with my unusual query. My mother lives nr Ludlow in a house that has a large conservatory. She is moving at the end of the month but is going to temp. rented accommodation whilst she house hunts for another conservatory.... I mean house!

In the meantime she has some very beloved but large pot plants requiring their own temporary, heated, accommodation (1 very large orange tree 5.5ft, 1 smaller orange tree, 3 very large aspidistra + 2 other largish plants). I am on the hunt for a nursery that could over-winter these for her in return of course for a monthly/quarterly fee.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried ringing local nurseries and made numerous online searches with no joy.

    Many thanks!

    Hello friend.

Yes! you and yours have a very big problem before you.

IMHO, nurseries and suchlike, share a similar problem to yours.  The warm summer days etc, do tend to invite us all, to have a go at growing exoctic species etc.  Once grown, we wish to keep them going throughout the winter months.  So in all honesty.  Dare I submit.  The local nursery, will undoubtedly need every inch of space, for their own produce.  Finance versus product.  I dread to think, what the outcome would be.  In reality.  A negative concern in your specimens would be the outcome.

Have you tried your local council.  To my limited, knowledge, most councils have some sort of botanical set-up, open to the public.  Fair do's, there must be a risk factor, but a few pennies in the coffers of the local council, might just, help you and them.

    Must be worth a thought.

    Best of luck.

    Mike.

Is there a local gardening society that might be able to help? Might be worth a trip to a local garden centre to see if any local groups have a flyer posted with contact details. Another possibility might be contacting the WI - perhaps there maybe a member who is able to help or may know someone who can? Or failing that, perhaps contact the local radio station (BBC Shropshire) and ask them to put out a plea? I live in Herefordshire but unfortunately don't have a heated conservatory otherwise would offer to help. Hope you manage to find something soon.
