We tried growing sweetcorn for the first time this year and the actual ears looked great but when we unwrapped them they only had a few isolated yellow seeds.can onyone suggest why?

Did you have them planted in 'squares' rather than straight rows? Did you shake them regularly to cross polinate? Were they in a postition to get lots of sunshine?
Sorry lots of questions, but if the answer is no to any of the above, then hopefully you have your answer!

Sounds like poor polination ,plant in a square block about 15 inches apart they are wind polinated so as Susiq suggested give them a regular shake

I've grown it very succesfully in Scotland. I always shake the pollen from the male part of the plant (the tip) onto the female bits (husks) which seems to help them set

We've tried them for 2 years running, the first year they developed OK, but they weren't sweet. This year the Kernels didn't swell up. we planted them in blocks to help pollination, but believe that they musn't have got polinated properly. Another plot on our allotment had the same issue, and he's been growing them for years, We are not going bother again as 2 failures in a row have ruled them out, and we will use the space for something more reliable
