Going mad trying to ID this plant. Help please?

Found in the Medieval Herbal Gardens at Stafford Castle in the 'Ear Nose Throat' raised bed (normal claggy topsoil).
Plant itself is very fragrant to the touch (but can't quite place the smell).
No leaves left on this specimen, just these remaining flowers and seed pods with small brown seeds approx 3mm max diameter.
Any help would be appreciated!

Salvia patens, that it is.. I have Cambridge Blue in my garden and its been fantastic this year... It also featured on Gardeners World a few weeks ago...
