I am trying a lot harder to make sure I label my seed trays properly but I still have one that I planted a while ago and I'm afraid I don't know what they are. I need to plant them out soon so it would be handy to know what they are and therefore their requirements, eg full sun, partial shade, etc. Any ideas please? Thanks very much.

     Are the leaves scented?

Do you remember if you'd sown any dahlia seeds?

Or the names of any other seeds you sowed?

I have looked through the packets before without success but I've just had another look. I wonder if they are bergamot, which I did plant. Googling images of them I can't see the leaves that well as they concentrate on the flowers but it looks like a good possibility. Anyone else grown these and can confirm?

I did plant some dahlia seeds a few years ago but never got anything from them. I could imagine the odd seed germinating now from that sowing but not that many.

They look like Fushia, or possibly Mentha species.

The first thing I thought when I saw the picture was Bergamot (Monarda didyma or other sp). I'm not a horticultural expert, but I've grown a fair few from seed in the last couple of years, if that helps!

Also, you say you sowed them a while ago. In my experience, they germinate well, then progress is very slow until the following year when they finally bush out. It was the leaf shape and also the cluster of small leaves round the base that made me think of bergamot. I've got mine in full sun in a pH neutral, fairly clayey soil but I think they're fairly accommodating plants, as long as they get a reasonable amount of sun. As I say, not an expert, this is just my own experience!

Thank you. I think you are right and they are bergamot. I'm going to try to plant them out this weekend.
