    Hi

My forsythia is getting a bit unruly.  I tend to trim from below the plants as I like to see the birds on the ground and I also tend to prune from the base of each stem Embarrassed

What would you do to tidy this up?  Would you just chop it back to ground level and let it start again.  Or just chop back half each branch.  The birds (especially the blue tits) love this tree.

I would prune out one third of the old stems, then lightly prune it into shape .do this anually after flowering in future years  jon

Ah, but which third? Big Smile

    Random? Even?

    Inner? Outer?

    Thicker? Thinner?

I just don't know Tongue Tied

     re which third:

Remove the very oldest, most gnarled stems, right at their base.
