I save egg shells and break them up and spread them around the base of plants, it seems to deter the slugs and snails Snail as they don't like crawling over the sharp edges, but it doesn't seem to stop them completely..Hope you are enjoying your sailing ...do you cast out a line to catch fish...I love mackerel. Smile

AutomobileGlad your car pased the MOT Sue..I have not been on here so much recently as I have been having some trouble getting on the Internet so had to order a new router. The old one kept crashing out..I had a small bowl of new potatoes yesterday from one of the buckets I planted up so we are having those tomorrow now. Its spag bol tonight for our meal. then I am out with the lads for evensong..lolBig SmileYes

I expect you're more used to seeing the sun than the rain in Cornwall Peter Rabbit.  Good luck with your flying lessons, are you aiming to fly the big planes or just the small ones for pleasure? and seeing those dolphins must have been a wonderful sight.

Glad you've got your router sorted now Richard.  You will be missing out on all those broken eggshells once Nicola moves out, you'll have to take over and start making the cakesWink

Good day all, I am glad the new router is sorted now Sue, it seems to be working OK and so far has not dropped off-line as the old one did once or twice a day recentlySmile. Haha I don't think I will be taking over the baking when Nicola moves to Wales, but I hadn't thought about a large reduction in the egg shells until you mentioned itSurprise.

We just had a big storm hereStorm and it went really dark. As soon as it was over the sun came out and now there is blue skies. I went out in the garden earlier and watered the plants in the two little greenhouses and did a bit of dead-heading.

Hope you all have a good day .Big SmileYes.

Hi all, that's me finished at work for this week and a very busy time for me there the last couple of days.

We've had showers on and off for most of the day and just about made it indoors before another one started.

You'll have to get your neighbours to start collecting their egg shells for you RichardWink

Tonight we are having chicken pieces stuffed with Philadelphia cheese and wrapped in bacon. We have had it before and it is not as dry as roast chicken pieces on their own own. Stick out tongue

Hi all, it's been mainly sunny here today with a small sharp shower a couple of hours ago which started just after I got the washing in.

I've had chicken done that way before Richard and it's lovely, we've got some southern fried chicken goujons that I picked up in Lidl's earlier but I haven't decided what to do with them yet.

Hi everyone. Has been better than forecast today. Have been pottering - have moved and split some irises while its not too hot, hoping they will settle and flower next year. We are now eating our lovely red greenhouse tomatoes, plus masses of little cucumbers - I wondered if they will pickle, and lettuces are still going strong amazingly (12 lollo rosso plants I put in at end of April, and haven't bought a lettuce since). Finally have one courgette forming on the only remaining courgette plant - probably the most expensive courgette in the country. OH has sown some lupin seeds, I need to put a horseradish plant in the ground - currently in a pot. I still haven't worked out how to re-size my pics on the hosting site so might just post a couple of big ones for you to see. Hope everyone's having a good day whatever you are up to

Morning all, yesterday was a mixed bag of sunshine and very heavy downpours although I did manage to harvest some Charlotte potatoes, pick a courgette and loads of blueberries before it came down.

It's sunny here at the moment with rain forecasted for later on.  OH's family are coming to dinner today so I'm doing slow roasted silverside with the potatoes I harvested yesterday, and for afters is a homemade white chocolate lemon cheesecake and homemade blueberry ice cream.

Sorry late on duty todayEmbarrassed. Wow there has been a lot of flooding in places all over the UK today so hope everyone is OK. We had a mixed bag here too Sue sunny spells, hot, cold, rain with thunder and lightening and windy this afternoon.Snap Sue, I did some roast silverside for the family's dinner today and made a rice pudding tooAngel. I couldn't find the short grain pudding rice so I risked making it with arborio rice. Once it was cooking in the over I found the packet of pudding rice. It came out OK though and no one knew any different until I told themWink..

Glad you have your pics sorted Deb I will go and see if I can find them. I see that you are from Somerset and I hope you managed to avaoid the flooding in your area. Well done with the lettuce and tomatoes there is nothing quite as tasty as your own produceWink

Morning all, it's quite overcast here at the moment with more rain on the way.

That's typical to find something after you've improvised with something else isn't it RichardWink  Glad your family liked the dinner you made for them.  We had a lovely time yesterday with OH's family over and they enjoyed their dinner and absolutely loved the Charlotte potatoes from the garden which I served up dripping with butterBig Smile

Hope no-one got flooded out too much yesterday in the areas that did get it.

Morning all; We were totally surprised to see the flooding on the news as didn't have any rain here (in South Somerset) at all. Sunny and cloudy today. I spent yesterday taking down some small trees - though they don't look so small now they are laying on the garden - they have just got overgrown in a boundary hedge and blocking out the light, plus making it difficult to get to the oil tank. Not the best time of year to do it while in full leaf I know. Today I have to cut them up enough to get on the bonfire. Also need to tidy our rose arch now the flowers have finished. Mmmm, love a bit of rice pudding - I use brown pudding rice and cook it in the slowcooker with cinnamon and sultanas, more of a winter dish I suppose. Have a nice day everyone.

Morning allBig Smile, lovely and sunny here.

Well my Mum is well on the mend now and is managing to walk with a stick so things should calm down for me a bit now. What with looking after her and doing my own bits I'm afraid the garden has been totaly neglected for the past week.

How are you now Miranda, hope you are fit and well again. What a shame about your cherry tree, I did see the pics on FB. Someone gave us a load of cherry tree logs about five years ago and I piled them all up at the bottom of what is now my veggie garden. The pile is about five foot high and easily the same wide so I am sure I have a whole colony of wild life in there by nowBig Smile.

Glad your car passed its MOT SueYes. You really made my mouth water with your picture of the cheesecake and icecream, not to mention the Charlotte pots dripping in butterStick out tongue. How's Sasha these days, a pic would be nice, pleaseWink.

Glad to see you are keeping up with 'church' in my abscence RichardWink, Dont talk to me about slugs and snails, I had a gorgeous pink Dahlia in a pot in the front garden and in a couple of days it has been stripped of nearly every leaf by snails. I went out there last night with a torch and picked off 28 of the slimmy gits from my pots out thereAngry. Glad you have got your router sorted.

I bet that was a lovely sight Peter Rabbit, the dolphinsSmile. Any chance of some pics of your garden for us to nose atWink

I haven't found your pics yet DebHmm, will have another look later.

Oh well, indoors is done, washing all out on the line and my Aunt is at my Mum and Dad's all day so guess where I am off to now, yep the garden for the rest of the dayBig Smile

Have a good day all, sorry such a long postWink

Hi all. Well, it's been another wet one here - again. Was glad of my waterproofs! Still, at least we didn't get any actual flooding in this area, just very wet.

Glad your mum is mending, lillyrose, that must be a relief. Give yourself a bit of time off before tackling the garden - it's supposed to be a bit nicer from Wednesday onwards, so maybe you'll be able to get it done in the dry instead of the wet.

Thanks, I'm mended too and trying, once again, to be careful. It's easy to forget that I'm not getting any younger. Yes, it's a shame about the tree - have realised it's a cherry plum - but we reckon it's about 120 years old so it's had a good run. I shall try and take some cuttings but they may or may not work. I've already got a couple of seedlings that I found nearby and potted up last year, but they probably won't come true. The leaves are the right colour, though, and as far as I know, this is the only purple cherry plum nearby. The landlords have decided to have it taken out, but we'll keep the wood for a log pile and any that's burnable. There's plenty for both.

Oh Richard, you are devout, aren't you Big Smile We should really attend more often ourselves and are obviously not correctly worshipful. We must try harder Wink

Nice one on the car, Sue. Ours failed and it was quite expensive, as the axles had to be taken off and things done with bearings and whatnot. There you go. At least the wheels aren't about to fall off or anything.

There are good smells coming from the kitchen, they need investigating...
