Hope you enjoyed your roast beef dinner Sue..we had roast chicken here today.
Well done ..you timed the grass cutting perfectly. Yes there is a lovely scent coming from the Jasmin. A gardening friend sent me the plant for a birthday present last year and it has come on a treat

We have plenty of tomatoes coming on and have eaten about 5 but I think tomorrow we will have loads of ripe ones as they're almost red now. We also have loads of small cucumbers and some lettuce I put in about 2 months ago are still going strong - so plenty of salads. The rest of the veg are either not ready yet, or disappointing - so many slugs and so much rain. Ah, well.
We have had a couple of heavy showers today and then sun in between - it is cooler. I managed to have a bit of a bonfire to get rid of some hedge clippings, which I wouldn't have had if it was still hot and dry so, pardon the pun, every cloud....
My husband scalped the grass yesterday and it actually looks awful - I am not impressed, don't know why he set the cut so short - good job we had some rain.
More rain tomorrow I believe - might be able to move some irises if it stays cooler.
Have a nice evening guys.

I'm jealous of anyone with ripe tomatoes - mine are still green (they got a late start this year)
Whether you think you can do a thing, or think you cannot, you are right.

Morning all, it looks like we are in for another day like yesterday, dry this morning and wet again this afternoon. It's actually quite chilly outside at the moment but the sun should help warm things up a bit. It sounds like you've got a husband like my OH Deb, whenever he used to mow the lawn, he always scalped it and it looked horrible so now he always leaves it to me to do and then he can't get moaned at

Sorry to hear about your mum having a fall lillyrose, hope she makes a swift and full recovery Glad you got some sun after the storm Richard, it's still dry here and the promised rain for today hasn't turned up yet. I was out in the garden this morning and weeded the veg beds, did some deadheading and then dug up some Charlotte potatoes and picked some blueberries. I used the blueberries to make a couple of pots of blueberry and apple jam. Welcome Peter Rabbit from me too. The slugs and snails are certainly on the up this year, I've been using the organic slug pellets around some of my plants and veg but I have picked up loads of them when I see them and disposed of them.

Morning all. Another damp one here, but I am still on my break so it doesn't really matter. Sorry to hear your mum had a fall, lillyrose. Hope she feels better and is up and about again soon. I've realised I forgot to wish you a happy birthday the other day! Belated happy birthday! Have you spent your vouchers yet? Hello Peter Rabbit and Deb, nice to meet you. Yep, it's the year of the slug, isn't it. They and bindweed are having an Annus Mirabilis and 2012 is their Special Year. Never seen anything like it for both of them. A big branch fell off the cherry tree at home during the night and I'm waiting for some tree guys to call round and have a look. I think it may have to go as there is evidence of rot all over it and the woodpeckers have made dozens of holes. Shame, it must have been there for at least 100 years. There you go.

Morning all, it's a damp one here too Miranda but it looks like it could soon start to clear up. Hope you've managed to rest those muscles you pulled the other day That does sound a shame with the cherry tree, although if it does have to come down, you've got some nice firewood there. I've not long been back from the garage, my car passed it's MOT without needing any work doing on it

Congratulations on the MoT, Sue! I don't think ours will pass, but we aren't expecting it to because it needs some welding done. Yes, been resting up and feel a lot better, thank you. After so many years, I'm kind of resigned to being clumsy ;-) I gave the cherry wood a prod and it's really soft and rotten and won't be good burnables, so I think I'll make a log pile to attract beetles. It will be interesting to watch.

It's good to hear you're feeling a lot better Miranda The log pile to attract beetles sounds like a good idea.

Morning all, it's sunny, cool and breezy here and doesn't really seem like the beginning of August! Have a good day everyone and will catch up again after work.
