     Hi everyone,

Thank you all for the birthday wishesBig Smile, I had a lovely day and was spoilt as usualWink. Got mainly vouchers this year which suits me down to the ground as I can buy what I really want. My SIL bought me 2 lovely Dahlias which I was please with as I lost all but one of mine last year in all the cold we had.

Well it sounds as though we have all been having the same weather the past few days, we had a brief spell of sun this morning but that soon went and surprise surprise it's raining again now.

Hope it clears up for your week off Sue. You might even get the odd lie in next week since Son will be on holiday tooSmile.

That is such a shame with your veggies SusiqSad, I have never seen as many snails as I have this year, they are munching their way through my garden Tongue Tied.

I like the look of your new airer Richard and it is nice and cheap to run too. I hope Nicola had a nice time away.

A friend of mine lost her cat this morning, she found her yesterday evening not right at all so took her to the vet who said it looked like she had been violently kicked as all her stomach was in her chest cavity. Poor little thing didn't make it which was really upsetting. Makes me so angry that there are people out there so cruel.

Well done finding those Snail Richard, hope they don't slither their way back in.  I bet that will feel strange for you when Nicola goes to Wales in September.

Glad you had a lovely birthday lillyrose, it sounds like you did well, have you any ideas what to spend your vouchers on yet?

The weather forecast is looking promising for this area for next week thanks and looks like it will be dry for the whole weekYes  I don't know about the lie-ins, it depends if Sasha comes in to wake me up or not as she's used to being let out when my alarm goes off.  Sorry to hear about your friend's cat, the person who kicked her should be castrated without an anaesthetic!

It has been very quiet on here today, expect we are all in shock at seeing the sun againBig Smile.

It started off really wet here first thing but by lunch time the sun was out and it stayed nice for the rest of the day.

Not sure what I will be buying with my vouchers yet Sue but as most are for a garden centre I love Big SmileBig Smile. Got some for a clothes shop in town too so will have a look during the week.

Hope you do get a few lie-ins Sue

Morning all, it's very warm outside here already, it looks like we are in for a hot one today.  It shouldn't take too long for the lawn to dry out, I shall get that cut and maybe sit outside and chillSmile

Good morning all. What a lovely little forum you have here - seems like a nice place to drop in for a chat in between the gardening jobs. Sunny and warm in Somerset today - and long may it continue. I have generally left the gardening to my other half but mainly because he was very busy/away from home, and I had a bit of spare time, I started pottering just to help him keep on top of things. Well, of course, the gardening bug has bitten me big-time, in spite of the dismal weather. I have cleared a greenhouse and am growing my first ever tomatoes - and I am so excited! We have a pretty big garden - lots of grass to cut, but I quite enjoy that. The veg patch is not huge but there is space to expand if needed, but not this year - I think I need to walk before I can run. So, I am sure I will be dropping in with lots of daft questions, and looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better. Happy gardening!

Good afternoon all and a "hi" to you Deb you are most welcome here. Please join in with us at any time you wish for a chat, as you can see we chat about many things...sometimes even gardening ...hahaWink. I am just growing six tomato plants as I don't have a lot of room, they haven't flowered yet though.

A lovely sunny day here too in Leicestershire Sue,Cool I hope you get to have some time to chill out in your garden. I will be out with the watering can in the little greenhouse, and the hosepipe in the garden later on this evening. I am cooking dinner at the moment and am doing roast pork, carrots, small courgettes and roast potatoes, followed by a rhubarb crumble which Cheryl made.Yes

Hope you manage to get something nice with your birthday vouchers lillyroseCake. There was a large car boot sale here as there is every Sunday. Nicola and her friend had a stall there and managed to sell off quite a lot of her things that she does not want to take with her when she moves to Wales...She got there at 6am Surprise

Catch you all later...I wonder how you are getting on Phot'sConfused...we are thinking of you here ...

Welcome from me too Deb, it sounds like you've started to enjoy the wonderful world of gardeningSmile  Please feel free to ask any questions you want on the forum but please don't think of them as being 'daft' - we all had to learn somewhere and the best way to learn is by asking questions, and making lots of mistakesWink

Glad you've got the sun up your way too Richard.  I've been in the garden this morning weeding the veg beds and cut the grass and it's all looking so much better again.

I've just taken a gypsy tart out of the oven to cool which will follow the gammon joint I picked up in Lidl's the other day.  Talking of Lidl's, we tried some of the kangaroo steaks for dinner from there last night and they were gorgeous, they tasted very much like beef steaksYes

I haven't heard of gypsy tart SueConfused..sounds tasty though. I have had a nice afternoon, sat in the garden under the gazebo, and answering a few emails etc on the laptop.Wink It has been a glorious day hereCool

Nicola is in the kitchen making some intricate toppings for some cup cakes she has made for an order. I expect she will be having an early night tonight after her early morning start today...

Our honeysuckle is looking a real picture this year its the best it has ever been. I think it is because it is now planted in the garden after being many years in a large tub.AngelYes

It's good to hear your honeysuckle is doing well now Richard.  I had one in a pot that does much better now since it was planted directly into the groundSmile

This is the gypsy tart recipe I used, it used to be a school favourite but I think it's more common in the southern half of the country.  We've got some left over which we will finish off tomorrowSmile

Hi everyoneBig Smile. Welcome from me too deb. Ditto to what Sue said, we all had to start some where and we still ask questions when we are un sure. Once you get the hang of things it would be nice to see some pics of your garden, we are a nosey bunch on hereWink.

Well what a glorious day we have hadCool and about time too.

I went to a huge boot fair this morning too Richard, took Son DIL and GS. Came home with sooo much for GS, including a gorgeous toy box that is covered in fabric and a lovely set of pine shelves that are hand painted with animals. DIL and I also bought him loads of V-tech toys and loads of clothes that were so cheap we couldn't believe it. I also bought myself a 'bug house' which I am really chuffed with as have wanted one for ages and 2 courgette plants. I wasn't going to grow them this year but they were only 50p each and are huge. One is a standard one and the other is yellow.

When is Nicola moving to Wales Richard, bet you will miss herSad. I did lamb steaks for dinner today with mash peas and gravy.

Sue I LOVE gypsy tart, I make them regularly but they never seem to lastWink. Hope you enjoyed a nice long sit in the garden, in the shadeSmile

Morning all and another hot and sunny day too.  I was just reading on our local newspaper site that the good weather should last until the weekend before it turns showery again so it looks like we've picked the right week to have off workYes

It sounds like you got quite carried away yesterday lillyroseWink  I'm sure your GS is very happy with his new toy box and the toys to go in itBig Smile

I did enjoy sitting in the garden yesterday thanks, watching and listening to all the birds.

We are going to see OH's mum today after the second load currently in the washing machine has been hung out.  Hope everyone else has got the good weather too.

Hiya all, and welcome from me too to Deb, feel free to pop in whenever you want - we all do! Would also love to see some pics of your garden if you get a chance.

Oh Lillyrose that really upset me reading about your friends cat - ditto to everything Sue said about the vile excuse for a human being that did it. Blimey you did well though at the bootfair though, or should I say GS didWink

You won't know yourselves (or your kitchen) Richard, when Nicola flies the nest - has she got many contacts there to be able to carry on with her cake business? Oh and by the way, if you didn't zap those slugs/snails that you put outside, did you know they have a 'homing' skill, that even if you take them nearly a mile away, they will work their way back to where they came fromTongue Tied

Well Sue, I'm glad you've got the lovely sunshine, sadly for us, its a country of two halves (yet again) and its going to be cloudy most of the week and about half the temperature of what you lot will be enjoying down southSad The poppies in the lodge garden are those giant triple pink frilly jobbies, not the wilder sort of poppies. I'll be saving the seeds though to put in our main garden for next year. If anyone wants any seeds just shout!

More weeding for me today, and cold lamb with sweet potato chips tonight. We've been invited to a bbq on Wednesday for a friends birthday, I'm taking a couple of different salady bowls along - lets just pray the cloud doesn't turn into the wet stuff!
